lets discuss japanese mythology.

the picture i posted is a yuki-onna, which means "snow woman". there are many different versions and are often given traits that belong to vampires. for instance some times they can not enter a house uninvited. they are almost always malevolent although sometimes more subtle than others. one might be caring a baby and ask someone to hold it and if that person does so they turn to ice. others might just summon a blizzard and freeze the human. they always have pale skin and are generally naked or wearing a kimono

>A kitsune may take on human form, an ability learned when it reaches a certain age — usually 100 years, although some tales say 50. As a common prerequisite for the transformation, the fox must place reeds, a broad leaf, or a skull over its head. Common forms assumed by kitsune include beautiful women, young girls, or elderly men. These shapes are not limited by the fox's age or gender, and a kitsune can duplicate the appearance of a specific person. Foxes are particularly renowned for impersonating beautiful women. Common belief in medieval Japan was that any woman encountered alone, especially at dusk or night, could be a fox.

Hmm, wonder who that sounds like.

Alright, so we're talking Japanese mythology.

This here monstrosity is called Waniguchi, which apparently means gong crocodile, or it better mean gong crocodile because that's what it is. Semantics aside, it behaves like a crocodile if crocodiles lived in temples and had fang-filled gongs for heads. Whether there exists an Eastern Captain Hook who hears the monster coming from its ringing head exists is up to debate. It's a vanilla tsukumogami, that is to say an animate object that gained a soul over the years. It'd be nice to have a girlfriend who also doubles as an antique radio, but given she's been used by three previous generations you may consider her a slut. Those critters don't like electricity anyway, which is used to explain why we don't have living buildings walking around.

There IS a myth of a walking building, though, in form of a demonic ramen bar that drugs its customers to sleep and turns into a portal to hell, so the monsters there can feast on the helpless victims.

Basan is practically just that, a giant heron that breathes fire. Japan has some ridiculous shit like the famous Asseyes, but that thing pales in comparison to the evolution of cockatrice or manticore.

Ghost fires are often souls of the recently dead, or can be an illusion left by kitsune (either to guide the lost or to fool them, depending on alignment and mood of the animal) They are analogous to the western Will o' the Wisps. Souls are represented, in common with the West, as either butterflies or glowing balls. They're apparently wet and slimy instead of hot, compare with Ashimagari.

Shikigami are paper spirits controlled by an onmyouji, akin to a magician of the West in that they dwelled in the occult as well as astronomical matters. While they are paper, they can be made to take apparance of various other creatures. Controlling one is apparently a burden on the onmyouji, Abe no Seimei is famed for being able to handle 12 at once.

Or you may be meaning Ittan Momen, which is a rather well-known creature shaped like a long, white cloth fluttering in the wind. It may attempt to strangle passersby, some say it behaves like an animal and only attacks if threatened, some say it has a preference for sinners.

Susano is the killer of Orochi, but I think you may be meaning Okuninushi, who tried to marry Susano's daughter, only to have Susano try to kill him with fatal tasks. Okuninushi survived them, tied Susano's hair to his bed and ran away with the daughter. Of course, when Susano pulled his hair, his entire place came crashing down on him, which didn't deter him a bit and he went on the chase. Okuninushi asked Susano to marry his daughter while running the fuck away, Susano agreed. Weird folk, those two.

As you may get from the story, Susano is a bit of a dickhead.

Oh, he also died once or twice when his brothers turned on him too.

Slit-mouth. Some samurai cut his wife's mouth ear to ear because she was a slut or something (samurai didn't really need excuses to cut people apart) and the wife turned into a demon who now asks people "Am I cute uguu~" and kills them if they say no, if they say yes she shows them her distended mouth and kills them if they're scared of her. They're distracted by throwing fruit at them.

Jyorogumo- According to legend, when a spider turns 400 years old, she gains magical powers. She is said to be very beautiful, attractive to everyone who sees her. Stories of Jorōgumo can be found in Edo period books such as "Taihei-Hyakumonogatari" (太平百物語) and "Tonoigusa" (宿直草), and others. In these stories, Jorōgumo changes its appearance into a beautiful woman and asks a samurai to marry her or takes the form of a young woman carrying a baby[1].

A drawing in Toriyama Sekien's"Gazu Hyakki Yakō", depicts Jorōgumo half-woman/half-spider surrounded by her spider children.

Jorōgumo is also known as the master of the waterfall at Jōren waterfall (浄蓮の滝), Izu, Shizuoka. The legend has it that a man was resting at the foot of the waterfall when his feet were bound with vast numbers of spider threads. He cut the threads and tied them to a stump of a tree, which was pulled from the ground and drawn into the waters[1].

After this incident, villagers, afraid of the spider, stopped going to the waterfall. However, one day, a logger from out of town, unaware of the story, began cutting wood in the area. When he accidentally dropped the axe into the water, he dove into the pool to find it. A beautiful woman appeared and returned the axe, telling him never to tell anyone about her. While the logger kept the promise, he began feeling anxious about the incident. One day, while drunk, he told the secret and, finally feeling at ease, fell into deep sleep. He never woke again.

All depictions of this thing I've seen so far were outright ridiculous, so I don't really fear it. Bake-kujira the ZOMBIE WHALE is more of a threat.

At any rate, here's another fun critter, the Ushi-oni. Commonly depicted as an aquatic spider with an ox head, it is seen more or less as a wild beast and treated the same way. It may or may not be intelligent depending on the account, there are stories of one protecting a pool or agreeing to help farming if a part of the harvest is given to it in return (unless I'm confusing it for Ccoa)
