But feasible elf ears and shit can be grafted nowadays, muscles are also possible, so a tail and ears are perfectly workable and you just need a good analogue to fur.

The ears would probably be doable with severe plastic surgery and skin/hair grafting. You'd probably have to tie any motor function to the brow though, so to move your ears you'd have to wiggle your eyebrows or something.

But the idea of moving muscle to somehow emulate a tail? Tails need bones, lots of muscle, and the most challenging part: motor neurons and CNS integration.

Dogs want to please you. Cats want to please themselves, and sometimes you factor into this equation, but there are plenty of times when you don't. Dogs also come in all shapes, sizes, and temperaments, giving you a lot to chose from, while cats are just cats.

Basically dogs = Linux and Cats = OS X.
