2870067 No.2870067 [Reply] [Original]

Sup /jp/.
I have been playing umineko recently, and I've played, I think, to almost half the first chapter. (I plan to finish it before watching the upcoming anime, and i believe i'll read fast enough to do so) However, I've heard some people saying how awesome said game's OST is awesome, and here comes my problem: i've heard none. Now, I do hear sound effects, but no music at all. Is it just that most scenes, expecially in the first part, don't have any music on them, or have i been missing on half the fun because i am a huge retard? Anyone who can help me?

>> No.2870081

Wow, what the fuck is wrong with you? How could you play through the first episode without any music.

>> No.2870077

Just go to the BGM folder and shit yourself all over.

>> No.2870086

How big is your BGM folder?

>> No.2870087

You probably downloaded a bad copy. I remember downloading a torrent from ISOhunt earlier and it had no sound whatsoever. Then I went on IRC and downloaded a fresh copy from the VisualNovels bot in #/jp/ and everything was working.

>> No.2870088

You completely ruined the first twilight for yourself.

>> No.2870090

>>2870081
uh...guess i didn't notice it. Ok, i'm a retard. Any way to fix this? (no, i know retards can't be fixed, the ost)

>> No.2870092

Yes you are a huge retard, you are probably using an older incompetent patch to the version of your game, or it has something do with your regional settings.

>> No.2870094

Once you are done with the installation of the original game, please test it beforehand in order to see if everything works fine. We strongly recommend you to check the content and the state of your installation: please be sure to check if the BGM tracks in the BGM folder are all present compared to the content of your game disc, and if their titles are indeed in Japanese. If something is missing or misnamed, please reinstall or copy-paste the missing/corrupted content from the CD to your installation.
This is very important: all Japanese titled files must be readable. If you still can’t have proper Japanese file names, please check again if your system is set in Japanese locale or if you installed the East Asian Languages.

haven't been there yet
>>2870086
195 Mbs. I believe the problem is somewhere else.

Also, it does have sound, just not music.

>> No.2870100

>>2870094
so i have to keep my pc in japanese EVERY TIME i want to play? oh well, fuck.

>> No.2870102

>195 Mbs. I believe the problem is somewhere else.
It is supposed to be far far larger than that. Which Episode version of the game do you have?

>> No.2870104

Reinstall it. Make sure you have a BGM folder this time.

>> No.2870105

>>2870067
>almost half the first chapter
The first chapter is about Kinzo in his study before the opening.

You probably don't use Japanese Locale and therefore all sound effects, visual effects and music using Japanese characters is missing. I strongly advise you to change to Japanese locale, copy all files from the ISO to your HDD and then install Umineko FROM the HDD to ANOTHER FOLDER on your HDD, copy the WH English folder into the game and open the onsrcripter_en.exe using either AppLocale or your computer set to Jap. Locale.

Installing from the ISO only using AppLocale won't work.

Epic win, OP.

>> No.2870119

>>2870102
the first episode. I meant episode anyway, not chapter.
>>2870105
Man, it's a pain, but if there's no other option, i guess i'll have to do that.
Well, i'll try it.
thanks

>> No.2870131

>>2870105
They've fixed the problem where you couldn't hear the tracks with japanese characters if you simply started the onscripter-en.exe. I used to spam this before that.

>>2870119
He was asking if the ISO is called Umineko1, Umineko2, Umineko3 or Umineko4 (or something similar)
the bgm folder of Umineko4 (which contains all previous episodes) is, of course, larger than the one of Umineko2.

>> No.2870133

Easy way is to use Applocale to instal the game, then play it normally.

>> No.2870149

Just copy+paste all of the music from the CD's BGM folder to your local BGM folder. It should be about 532MBs. The names have to be in their original japanese name or it will not work.

>> No.2870152

>>2870132
yeah, i have the first episode, meaning, only that one.

Also, if i have to re-install it, how do I keep the saves?

>> No.2870159

>>2870131
Nice. I didn't notice since my region rettings are always in Japanese.
>>2870133
but afaik installing from the ISO using AppLocale doesn't work. (not like I tried it again after it failed the first time)

>> No.2870191

>>2870152
The saves for the English version are in
C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\All Users\Anwendungsdaten\Umineko4
or Umineko2, Umineko3 etc.

Epic win.

Should have downloaded the fourth game. It comes with the previous 3.

>> No.2870209

The BGM folder should have 112 files in it if you're playing episode 4.

>> No.2870229

I was planning to post some spoilers but...

This guy playing with no music is just too pathetic.

>> No.2870230

>>2870131
That only works for Windows XP

If you're using Windows XP and the game is already installed (no music files or missing or anything) then you don't need applocale or your locale set to Japanese to play it. But if you're using Vista, you do need one of the two.

>> No.2870242

>>2870209
EP1 should have 45 (?, if the titles in the music box are in order of appearance in the game)

>> No.2870249

112 music tracks, 29 have Japanese file names
29 ambiance sounds, 16 have Japanese file names
77 sound effects, 32 have Japanese file names
24 system sounds, 3 have Japanese file names

>> No.2870267

You should just install episode 4. It comes with 1, 2, 3 and 4. There's no point in downloading them separately.

All 4 games already installed and patched.

Windows XP: Just go into the english folder and run onscripter.exe

Windows Vista: Change your locale to Japanese or use a workaround method (google it) to get applocale to work then run onscripter.exe in the english folder.

So, your playng a sound novel without any sound?
And it took you ~4 hours to realize this?

>> No.2870307

>>2870291
I already have the whole thing, so there's no point in downloading it again. I'll just have to patch it and hope it runs perfectly.

>> No.2870316

>>2870298
If it's like we said in this thread, at least 70% of the tracks should play, such as rahu_golderslaughterer.ogg.

The rain is also heard so it's not that easy to notice.

>> No.2870330

Manually copy all all music files from the mounted drive to the installation folder. If your locale isn't set to Japanese when you installed then it didn't transfer any file names with Japanese characters in them. I'm disappointed with so many people not already having their locale changed. It's kind of the standard thing to do for anyone that cares about playing Japanese crap.

>> No.2870374

Well, i reinstalled it with my pc set on jap and everything. so i tried it without the patch, and it works perfectly, music and all. Then i run onscripter.exe and there's no music. I don't know what to do.

>> No.2870404

>>2870374
Then your problem is probably around the patch. Check it again if you downloaded the correct version or not

>> No.2870407

>>2870374
Did you download the translation patch for EP1 demo (EP1 demo was released at about the same time as EP2 and contains all of EP1)?
Know that the patch is for EP1 DEMO. If you downloaded EP1 (not demo), it won't work.
Sorry, but I have no idea how to confirm that it is the demo or not.

Just in case, could you also post a screencap of your umineko folder? Is the translation directly in a subfolder?

>> No.2870424

>>2870407
I don't know, since my memory is too short. Guess i'll try and install episode 4 and patch that.

>> No.2870432

>>2870374
Did you install the patch correctly? All you do is exact the english folder into the main directory.

C:\Program Files\07th_Expansion\Umineko4\[WH] Umineko English\onscripter-en.exe

>> No.2870445

Episode 1 was never translated by Witch-Hunt only the demo was. (the demo is the full game minus the music box) but as already said, there's no point in downloading episode 1 or the demo for it. Just download episode 4 because it comes with everything.

>> No.2870450

>>2870432
For as much as I suck, i guess I've done so much right.
Now i'm installing the fourth episode and downloading the relative patch.

>> No.2870458

>>2870445
Oh damn, that's it! You have the original Ep1 version, not the Demo Ep1 version, they have different scripting. Just download Ep4.

Mystery solved

>> No.2870512

Fuck yeah, i finally managed, now the BGM works. I think computers hate me as much as i like them. Anyway, i have one other little problem, and that would be that reinstalling, i can't load the saved data anymore, i made a backup copy of the installation files however, can someone tell me precisely what to copy and what to do?
Thank you all for your concern till now.
Without you I would still be struggling.

You can remove the lock from that episode.
When you then start it, you can skip to any chapter.

well, replaying it from the start would be too much i think, after all i'm halfway through it, I'll enjoy the next part and maybe when i'm finished i'll replay the beginning.
