What I said in the first place is it: she's the kind of person who can barely even take care of herself out of neglect, shortsightedness, and pure dumbness.

To me you just seem like someone who doesn't like when negative traits of characters you like are pointed out, but Touhou's full of such things. In addition to being dumb Reimu's rather gullible or rather easy to manipulate, she's violent, she has a dubious moral compass, she's selfish, and she's very lazy. Her good points are that if she cares about you she's pretty reliable, and her natural talent and bravery pretty much make up for any of her other shortcomings.

Touhou Ibarakasen ~ Wild and Horned Hermit chapter 46 here's one example, christ, why do I even have to do this for you? The chapter in which this girl literally dies for a bit because she wasn't eating properly. The entire manga is full of similar examples, just mostly with idiot scams.

Reimu is mysterious and incredibly talented. Most of the manga are supposed to be comedic and if they depict Reimu as a dork, that is to show that even she isn't perfect.

Without the spellcard rules, it would make groups like SDM invincible.
Patchouli is probably the greatest Mage currently in Gensokyo, not to mention the Library and what is and is not recorded there.
Sakuya's ability to stop time pretty much removes any thought that a mortal will compete if they ever get past Meiling. That's not to consider Remilia who would be the worst to face at night, or even Flan if they let her loose.

There are ways to compete, but outside spellcard rules, it comes down to talent and knowledge alone.
A NEET can beat Yorihime at Danmaku, but being physically unfit and untrained means that she will outright murder them in any other form of battle with her sword alone. Heck, even one of the bunny soldiers would be able to take them with no effort.

They have everything they need to be either on the offensive or defensive. The only alternative would be to starve them of resources and keep them under constant pressure as you attack, two things that given the stated would not be possible unless you had something to prop yourself up on like a useful ability.
