One of the reasons I liked Mei Shoujo more than Musume Shimai (its nearly identical predecessor) was the new protagonist.

In Musume Shimai you got to see your protagonist once or twice - he's basically just a Normal Dude. He looks like any eroge protagonist, really. I suppose it makes more sense, since he actually managed to marry the woman in question in order to give birth to the two girls.

In Mei Shoujo, the marriage necessity is removed, and the protagonist is now a full-blown disgusting otaku that it's actually somewhat cathartic to play. You don't actually see much of him very often, but it's clear from early on when the protagonist runs out of energy walking to meet the girls right at the start, and when you DO see glimpses of him, usually in the H scene, he's fat, unshaven and wearing those small eyeglasses that make creepy old men somehow seem even creepier.
