Bampu! Sounds awesome, thanks for the head's up

>> No.2817831

July 21st. No need to bug /jp/ this early.

(That said, I do not look forward to seeing the inevitable flood a month away)

>> No.2817845

If I didn't post it earlier...well..sorry, guys, but I quit posting for a while.

>> No.2817875

>>2817831
I doubt there will be a flood, especially since a lot of people have already read it with the leaked patch. Key stuff doesn't get much talk on /jp/ anyway.

>> No.2817882

>>2817875
Clannad did, mostly because it's fucking huge and it was the first period of the split.

>> No.2817887

Oh. Hey.
I also noticed, that there's a PSP port. Damn, why do they keep porting VNs to a console I can't crack.

>> No.2817895

Also, Shion's translation is out

Clannad was all ages though. Kanon isn't. In before people who like "pure" VNs claiming they're the majority on 4chan.

Isn't the current version you can DL right now pretty much the final version, just with some occasional grammar errors?

The one I played in November was fine. The translation wasn't perfect but it was still better than most commercial translations.

>> No.2818442

They do what they please with the translations. If they find a reason to release something, they decide to call it 'new berzun'.

>> No.2818452

>>2818431
>>2818442
I was just mainly meaning I don't see why there would be a flood next month when you can already read it all now.

>> No.2818464

The translators are still using gp32-style translation, which is 'make up random shit that sort of fits because you didn't understand the original line' translation.

あきこさんすごいよ, which would have fit fine as 'Akiko-san, you're amazing' becomes 'Thanks alot, Akiko-san'. For no apparent reason. The line I gave would have fit better with the following line. ('This is the best cake I've ever had.') Furthermore, 'alot' isn't a word.

There's also a number of cases where the translator has simply written the exact opposite meaning of a line, usually due to misunderstanding a negative. One translator seems to think that 全然 is always used in a negative context, resulting in some weird lines that have been 'edited' so they sort of fit.

This may be better than some commercial translations but it's still a bit sad. Arguably it's still better than machine translation so it still does the job, but even so.

is this game for arcade?

I've wanted to help out /jp/ for awhile now, how does one go about translating the text in these games? You seem to have a decent understanding, care to share a little nugget of wisdom?

>> No.2818504

>>2817887
Is there any chance of this translation getting ported to the PSP version? There was a guy working on a DS port but it looks like he has stopped working on it now.

>> No.2818505

>>2818464
I've noticed the same things. For example, when you're walking to school with Kaori (was that her name?) and Nayuki, when you get to school she says something like 'Miracles don't happen' and the main character starts to say something, but she stops him saying 'Just kidding.' and leaves.

In the English translation she just says something like she's going now, instead of that she's joking. And I can't imagine that they don't know what 冗談 means, so I'm baffled at the way they translate things.

Also I noticed the English is inconsistent. Sometimes they use British English (Shopping Centre, colour) but then some other times American English (favorite, center) and I'm not sure why. They also seem to switch between using words like 'All right' and 'Alright' some times.

Perhaps the fault of overzealous editing?

>> No.2818543

Has anyone gotten the voice patches to work with the standard edition - like maybe FSN installer sort of patching?

>> No.2818553

>>2818543
All you do is download the voices, extract to your Kanon folder, install the English patch if you haven't, and viola.

>> No.2818555

>>2818543
There's only two things you need for voices to work in Kanon:
1. The voice files, in a KOE directory, properly named
2. The scripts set up to play the voice files if present

As far as I can tell the patch contains the latter already. You only need to provide the former. The readme provides instructions.

>> No.2818558 [DELETED]

There is a version of the leaked patch with all the voices in it. Don't know about the latest NDT releases.

They're probably still using some of Haeleth's translation-that'd be where the British English comes from-mixed in with their own.

>> No.2818588

It's a pity they couldn't have kept more of Haeleth's translation.

At least Haeleth didn't blatantly mistranslate so much stuff. Seriously, there are errors in this that weren't in the original partial patch Haeleth released.

Oh wow, didn't think they'd actually link to it since it's of questionable legality. And no, I haven''t actually downloaded the patch yet - waiting for the full release since it's just a month away.

Man, I noticed that I downloaded Kanon 4 years ago, holding onto the hope it would be translated one day.

>>2818602
I have something called KanonSE-trans-voice-v1.0.rar which I think I got from Hongfire. If necessary, could up it to Megaupload.

I think it is occasionally fine with twisting translations so they sound better. Then again it might just be me sucking so much at Japanese that I miss the perfect translation that actually fit.

>> No.2820200

>>2820179
Twisting translations to make it sound better is alright.

Twisting translations just because you don't know what the fuck they're saying is wrong.
