The first Bad End was pretty hardcore, with Ilya dismembering you until you're a severed head she keeps magically alive for later tortures. Is this trying to be a horror game or what?

Shock guro =/= horror.

Horror use psychological frights to scare you. If you're supposed to be thinking Ilya and Berserker are going to be around every corner and every other choice, then it's a horror.

Shock value gory kill is Thriller.

Yeah, the first Bad End fucked my mind too. It's a shame that there are hardly any other ones that do the same, sans Kotomine hitting you with your old orphan buddy's corpse before gay bulging you.

'Cause this is thriller, thriller night
And no one's gonna save you from the beast about strike
You know it's thriller, thriller night
You're fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller tonight

You hear the door slam and realize there's nowhere left to run
You feel the cold hand and wonder if you'll ever see the sun
You close your eyes and hope that this is just imagination, girl!
But all the while you hear the creature creeping up behind
You're out of time

'Cause this is thriller, thriller night
There ain't no second chance against the thing with forty eyes, girl
Thriller, thriller night
You're fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller tonight

There's so many sentences and exchanges in FSN that look like they might have once made sense but got babelfished forth and back until they became something else entirely and the original meaning was lost to the wind. ;_;

I'm honestly curious whether VN writers are people who actually know how to write or if they're just fanficcers, only on a different language.

>> No.2788295

>>2788273
BS. I don't particularly like Nasu's writing myself (compared to stuff that actually is written well, like MoshiRaba or Swan Song, Nasu's writer 'voice' is disgusting) but it still didn't deserve the translation it got. Nasu's still a far better writer than the majority of vast majority of eroge scenario writers (and even then, the appeal is his 'nasuverse' more than the actual writing).

>> No.2788310

>>2788286
Some do. Romeo Tanaka, Setoguchi Renya and NYAON can write like goddamn poets. Others are at least on the same level as high-end fiction writers.
There's many, many terrible writers though, and they work on popular titles too.

>> No.2788322

Remember, Nasu isn't famed for his writing.

He's famed for this massive and intricate world he's created.

Read Fate/Zero if you want to see what happens if somebody takes said universe and hands it to a good writer.

Urobuchi did a good job with f/z but I don't think he's really that much better a writer than Nasu... more interesting, maybe.

No real concrete definition of it that I can imagine, but if a lot of people think that a work is written well, it's probably written well? http://erogamescape.dyndns.org/~ap2/ero/toukei_kaiseki/povlist.php?pov_id=78

Note that to really use this list for anything, you need to 1) look at the proportion of As to Bs, Cs and 2) look at the proportion of people who chose this POV compared to the proportion of people who voted for the game altogether. Also note that it ONLY refers to writing, not the actual scenario.

Only a person who never reads would say this. Most books have pretty shitty writing.

>> No.2788408

The average VN is still probably written worse than the average Stephenie Meyer novel, but you've got to remember exactly what the average VN is - the average VN most of you will never see unless you spend a lot of time on getchu or dlsite, because the filters of discussion, translation, ranking sites etc. will ensure that you never hear about them.
