Japanese is a dying language. The birth rates in Japan are the lowest ever, and in 2021, more than 50% of the total population will be retired, many of which rely fully on their children to survive. I read a great article on it. Although it won't matter to you, Japan will cease to exist before the year 2100 due to underpopulation.

As far right now, the language is useless. You won't get a job as a translator (because you have absolutely no people skills, either), and you won't meet some Asian girl who gets gooey because you can speak her language either. There's a reason the Japanese loves the English language, and they stick it in everywhere they can because they think it sounds cool and impressive. Whether it's some guy yelling "Psychic Punch!" in their laughably garbled accent, or just the use of English words in their comics to show that something particular is awesome or interesting, you ought to realize that as a language, Japanese is inconvenient and completely pointless in this day and age. If you must spend years learning an asian language, you might as well use one you can actually benefit from. Or you can just waste even more of your life because you LOVE Nippon, but I'd recommend leaving it to the overweight virgins who wants to learn it so they can watch their cartoon shows in the native language, filing the hole of loneliness and rejection with childrens entertainment from another country in the hopes that they can one day venture there and find a magical land of willing girls and free toys, where they can live their beautiful and wacky lives like the Japanese apparently do.

Though I would really like to believe that english becomes the world language. It was hard to learn it and sometimes I still can fuck it up. If I'm ever going to reproduce I don't want my children to experience the same thing. On the other hand learning and using a foreign language somehow teaches you about the diversity of peoples and cultures.

And, what does it matter for you anyway, if I like to study japanese language and waste my time? I believe that it's not away from your life... (Unless you are studying japanese yourself, and trying to make others drop the language so you had better chances)
Also, I'm a Finfag, not overweighted, neither virgin and I DO enjoy watching their cartoon shows in the native language. I have been in Japan, and I got a gf from there. Still dating... So there goes that theory of that kind of thing is NOT going to happen.

What the OP fails to consider here is that, assuming the birth rate problem is as bad as stated (I don't know enough about it myself to say), chances are the Japanese government will start trying different methods to increase it, such as allowing more immigration. A financial incentive might work too, in Australia birth rates have increased after introducing a one-off cash bonus for having a baby (I think it's $5000 at the moment).

As for the usefulness of the language, honestly, I think the same could be said for most languages that aren't English. I don't know, maybe Spanish too as that seems fairly widespread. Even Mandarin isn't as useful as it seems because it isn't really spoken at all outside of China. If you're fluent in English you're likely to be learning another language because you want to, not because you need to. In that case learn whatever the fuck language you want, and if it helps you enjoy your entertainment media of choice then all the better.

I learn Japanese for the same reason I'm one of the few Norwegians who still write Nynorsk. It's fucking beautiful. And for the same reason I'm learning Norse, an extinct language, it's fucking beautiful. I mean, how many languages has pronouns in dual number? Imagine what you could do with it. Also, it's inflected, which makes it pretty awesome to write poetry in. Ever read the Edda?
