Generally, alignments are about the mindset you follow, even if the actions are similar.
Saving a kid from a bully may be neutral/lawful good if you want to help him, true neutral if you didn't like the bully's pants and attitude and beat him up, lawful evil if you want the kid to be indebted to you and take advantage, or chaotic insane if you though you were beating up a moving hostile tree.
The only exception is when in DnD, your alignment is determined by a deity you follow, where you have to answer specifically for your actions and how they conform to a guideline set.
