I've started up a Free-For-All game as Akashi house and I have a few questions. Is it possible to get Hibachi as a subcaptain still? I've been trying to capture the musketeer girl, but it seems no matter how many times I defeat her, I can't capture her despite being able to take the other guards. Are unique units such as her unattainable? And are side-characters that you'd get from events gone?

I know that, I played it in the first place just to unlock Takeda and One Eyed House. I wasn't planning on finishing it but by the time I managed to unlock Takeda I'm already pretty far into the game so I was thinking an extra 5 points for completing it wouldn't hurt. In the end it didn't give one though.

Levels are really important for Dungeons and the endgame/optional bosses. I don't think they have any effect on troop battles, though. Unless it really is two separate damage rolls, one for the captain, and one for the troops.

Levels work out something like this.

A captain facing a monster. The higher leveled person gets a small damage bonus, and the less leveled person gets a small penalty. It stops at a certain point, since level 14s can still damage a 99 Rance about the same as someone in the 20s. Besides that, levels just mean more HP and more damage done.

BUT, this is important, every captain carries a secret set of parameters. For example, no matter what you do to Rance, he'll almost never out-damage Mori or Masamune.

I have found out that Rance will not be usable for several turns no matter what you do. He has to go through several turns of fucking Nozomi hard, in several holes, walking her naked in the street, etc, etc.

Then he just stops and makes sweet gentle love to Nozomi and problem solved. I think it took me 5 or 6 turns before the sweet love part.

Do not attack Iga or Tenshi Sect. You will get uprisings because of Tenshi, let them occur and then choose the option where you fight. It's just some pushover idiots. All other ways of dealing with it are much worse After a point, the uprisings will stop.

Also don't attack the Asai guys.

When the ugly people start extorting you, let them. At this point you should attack Hojo and Uesugi at the same time, use Rance against Uesugi every time.

Do attack the Miko place. Natori is one of the best units.

You then basically make a choicw (or do both if you can) of taking over all the east and getting the youkai people, or of going all to the west and getting those various armies.

If you go to the west, attack the rifle people and the fighting-a-losing-battle people at the same time, the people with the young white-haired leader.

That said, check the score screen and note which regions own gourds. Be aware that when you take over 5 of those places, all hell will break loose (literally, in fact) and it'll more or less be too late to do anything but fight to the end of the game.

I cleared the game with still two demon army countries, so I loaded the save and instead of fighting xavier I conquered them and afterwards conquered masamune's countries to get two hcg's of the youkais (I can't unlock the cyclops because I don't have the character needed).

I can pretty much attribute my decimation of the demon army entirely to Kojika. At slightly over 1000 troops for her, her shikigami absolutely raped every battle she was in. I raised her stats, mainly speed to 9, then equipped her with the dog that gives her two actions a turn and destroyed everything with her as my sole Diviner.

A lot of the strategy in this game, when trying to do really well as opposed to merely scraping by, seems to involve invading territories early on and capturing certain commanders.

Well, firstly, who are these excellent commanders? Secondly, how are you meant to get good enough to actually manage to capture them all before the shit hits the fan and its too late to do anything other than fight demons?

Unique captains like Himiko are nice for your army. Sen from Tokugawa, the Mori sisters from Mori (I do get Chinu for the 4p every time), Komatsu, Natori, Souun, Kojika, actually, just recruit everyone that looks good.

Well here's my problem. I have what must be about -20 points now, on my first playthrough. I found it pretty hard and didn't get far east or west at all. I haven't fought Takeda, Hojo or anything further away that way. As for the west, I just took over the rifle people. I'm on at least turn 75 or 80.

I can't see how I can ever get any points in order to make it easier, ironically because it's already too hard.

I'm getting tired of this game.

I had to restart once as there was no chance at all were I was. So now I'm avoiding all countries with gourds and obviously want to conquer Tokugawa. But every time I go for his final castle I get this battle. This battle can NOT, by any means, be won. Attacking several times in a row or letting him attack on the turn before serves no purpose as I get the same six commanders all fully healed no matter what.

Use captains with the "Hunt Defeated Captains" skill. Deal last blow with those captains. Recieve prisoners.

If you really have to, just conquer all but the castle, and set up a defense. Do the above each time they attack, until you feel you've taken enough.

I know what you mean. The game seemed to have real promise and I still love the idea and the tone if it. It's just that it's completely based on things you can't possibly know beforehand, such as needing to randomly capture those guys or, the real bastard, knowing which countries should be avoided all all costs. Yes, I know in a real war you don't know everything but it's ridiculous in this game. It'd be like if the US dropped the atom bombs on Japan, and that triggered the president to be assassinated by his wife... Something totally weird like that.

As someone said the other day, they intensely hidden trigger based nature of everything turns something that would normally be reasonably easy, or at least logically challenging, into a clusterfuck of random luck OR having to replay dozens of times to pin down the correct order. As the guy said, it's like trying to make a sandwich but if you take the butter out before you take out the bread, the ham explodes. Or, more accurately, the ham becomes poisoned - you're none the wiser - and 4 hours later you die.
