So Ren'Py has a collection of 'visual novels' created with the Ren'Py engine on its website.

Is there a site that has a collection of OEL visual novels that use ONScripter? I am trying to improve my understanding of it, but the NScripter Reference site is a bit difficult to get. Studying the functions and commands used practically would be far more instructive.

Pic unrelated.

Is there any particular reason you want to use ONScripter? Just curious.

If you're really curious, use insani's tools to read the source of real VNs, such as Tsukihime or Umineko.

>> No.2734423

I found it easier to just customize Renpy's textboxes and things than to use onscripter, special effects be damned.

Oh, and make sure you use English versions, since onscripter doesn't have all of nscripter's functionality.

>> No.2734446

If you're creative enough and throw everything through a custom wordwrapping script, you can actually make an English VN in nscripter just fine. It has no problems with halfwidth text any more, you see - I've seen a bunch of nscripter games using it.

This gives you full access to nscripter's pretty respectable array of plugins, but at that point you might as well just use krkr or some other shit

Are any of these OELVNs any good? I can put up with shitty art if there are decent characters.

With a VN I'm currently translating into English, I'm actually just using vanilla nscripter just like that - due to onscripter-en being buggy, rather outdated (even compared to normal onscripter), lacking in necessary features and otherwise generally shit.

Helping out for /jp/ project. For some reason people went ahead with ONScripter when it seemed like we had planned to use Ren'Py.

>>2734418
Thanks. I thought about that, but reading Red Shift's 0.txt made my head completely spin. Hopefully other ones have more readable code. Anyway, I'm a drawfag, not an expert programmer, so I hope this won't be too tough.

>>2734423
I've considered independently "porting" the project to Ren'Py, assuming it doesn't stall and die before then.

'Gakuen Redux' is rather good, try it out.

It has a fairy unusual narration style (the game entirely lacks dialogue, for example), respectable length (the longest OELVN to date, in any case) and an interesting story.

I'll give it a try, thanks.

Go for Ren'py. I've been toying with it. It has a bunch of nice features and is highly flexible (given that you're willing to spend time and learn it).

If you can load C modules with ren'py (python can so I guess it also can) the flexibility is limitless.

Unfortunately, I'm not tech savvy enough to make a custom word-wrapping script. Nor do I understand how to exploit the available plugins, but thanks for the suggestion.

Agreed.
