Where do you draw the line between an art style and something that is simply bad, like ZUN's fevered scribblings.

Mogudan used to be good. Very good. His women, though busty, were realistic. Had muscle tone. The body was drawn with care.

But then came TEH REI and his style went to hell. Pardon me if I am a bit vocal on this, but this is one dead horse of mine.

Actually, I heard once (no idea if this is true or not) that somebody took a close look at one of his paintings and did some measurements of the splatter trails and some math, and the Golden Ratio kept popping up.

If you're throwing things onto a canvas in a way that suits you, it's not surprising that you would (conciously or subconciously) put it into an eye-pleasing format, and when you consider the golden ratio is the most pleasing...

But really, there's so many splatter trails, how could it NOT pop up? I take it back though, Pollock is nowhere near as untalented as that one guy that does like, a couple of lines with a couple colors. His name escapes me.

zun's art style is fine, but the art sucks because of inability to draw hands and how the faces look kinda warped.

I love how ZUN did the art in PCB, it's miraculous how he could have made something as vile as SA Reimu.

His faces look pretty bad in EoSD, but they are mostly fine after that. Even the ones in MoF and SA, though they may look somewhat strange (at least the Reimu).

I haven't played the UFO demo yet, but now that you say it, Reimu looks rather nice in EoSD, especially that gesture were she lifts up here hand and glances at you. Also, she looks like she is enjoing herself verily when exterminating all those superfluous maids when Sakuya enters for her boss battle. I always found that incredibly easygoing.
