I think the format actually helped it. It meant there were fewer choices, so they all felt important (no "where do I eat lunch today" bullshit), and it forced one to take it at the correct pace and think about things rather than going as fast as you can read.

The DVD format had nothing to do with that. The choices were untouched from Phantom.

Integration adds more choices, sure, but they actually feel suitable.
Note that I've only actually played Integration, but I've seen kouryaku for the other two.

Bullshit. Plenty of eroges have DVDPG formats released and were no worse off for it. Just because a DVDPG format exists doesn't mean you need to play it in that format. Phantom is easily worth the time investment required to learn Japanese if that's seriously the only reason you're playing the DVDPG release.

Basically, Phantom: Integration is a 'merge' version of the PC, PS2 and DVDPG content. It's sadly unvoiced but on the whole much better than any of the original titles. The script has been cleaned up and reads much better too.
