>As the hornet enters the nest, a large mob of about five hundred honey bees surrounds it, completely covering it and preventing it from moving, and begin quickly vibrating their flight muscles. This has the effect of raising the temperature of the honey bee mass to 47 °C (117 °F). The honey bees can barely tolerate this temperature, but the hornet cannot survive more than 46 °C (115 °F), so it dies. Often several bees perish along with the intruder, but the death of the hornet scout prevents it from summoning reinforcements which would wipe out the colony.

>I am glad insects aren't intelligent human hunters.

Well, there are several species of moths with mouthparts specialized to drink blood. And those aren't stealthy mosquitos either. They're rather big, they have about the wingspan of the giant hornet.

And then there are flies that lay their eggs in human flesh. The best way to treat them is to leave them there to bear a massive hole in your hand or dick or brain or eye or wherever else they might have landed in, because the fuckers are so tenacious that trying to get them out causes more damage.

And worms that live in your bladder and calcify the place until you pee blood. Confused tapeworms that end up in your brain or muscles and slowly drive you insane because what is supposed to be your cognitive center is now a tapeworm playground. And guinea worms, which let out their lower halves from human skin to lay their eggs in water ...They usually aim the feet because feet are most likely to be in water, especially with the terrible itching pain they cause, but they may end up hanging their own genitals from your dick. They can be up to around a meter long, and well, just look at the picture.

Eh, not all of them. There are ways to remove human botfly larvae (probably not true for others) without fucking yourself up too badly. Just leaving one of those bastards in my skin while it's making desert out of me is not an option.

Did I mention the colonial spiders that make webs three meters in diameter, filled with thousands of spiders? Did I mention they build those about 30 centimeters off the ground, so you can trip on a rock and fall into the web? Did I mention that sometimes those social spiders get together and cover about ten or so trees with webs and spiders? Did I mention those live in, say, Texas?

>>2720760
There are wasp larvae that mess with the spider's brain so they weave a web designed to protect the pupa of the larvae instead of their regular hunting webs. All while eating the spider's innards.

Not a lot of spiders, at least. Scorpions, but not a whole lot of big spiders.

Come to think of it, ain't a lot of big spiders in Japan either. Think they got at least a few tarantula species in China and Korea, but not a lot out on the islands.
Kind of odd since big spiders aren't usually hindered by water.

Ah, found the spider in question. Anelosimus eximius.

>A colony of A. eximius social spiders in the Amazon forest is a wonder of nature and a show-stopper for the naturalist or eco-tourist. The capture strands of the colony's web can reach 8 m into the canopy, and the basket-like retreat at 30 to 150 cm above the ground can be up to 3 m in diameter. A colony may house more than 1000 spiders.

I'm not that creeped out by spiders (except the particularly long-legged variants) but there's something particularly scary about assassin bugs.

I'm scared as hell of spiders, but not so much of scorpions. But somewhere deep down in the marrow evolutionally tuned by a million years of winderness survival migrating barefoot from Africa to Sweden, I know being bitten by a huge spider only stings a little at worst, while the sting of a tiny scorpion = premature and embarassing arrival in Valhalla.

Made a bit sad since I actually like spiders. I'm just scared as hell of them.

Scorpion wasp's ovipositor is the drill that will pierce the heavens.

This wasp, you see, can drill into wood with her egg laying apparatus. They do this because they lay their eggs in wood-boring insects. The only female this side of dickgirls to make you feel insecure about your penis.
