Unless it's a tripcode with the sole purpose of announcing official music-related news and avoiding imitators, (like anybody cares) that is the dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

1. You can already become notable for your music itself, meaning that you won't have to establish a persona in order to catch the attention you crave.

2. You risk alienating listeners. Having a reputation means that your words and opinions stick, and you're going to piss somebody off down the line. Have you ever wondered why most of the most well-known tripfags are considered trolls or generally offputting people?

Well, I only checked the ones in the youtube link, but other than a few of the transitional parts, it honestly didn't impress me that much. But I guess I am kind of biased against VG-styled orchestral music, which tend to be pretty flashy but shallow, and limited in scope. For example, look at this guy >>2725231 - too many people who orchestrate VG music nowadays just slap some big orchestral chords over a melody with a prefabbed drum loop and call it done.

I know such a style is a crowd pleaser, and I'm in minority, but that's my two cents.

I agree as well. The only good song in that video is the SWR theme anyways. And it still seems that no one can do Kanako's theme any justice.

I feel that orchestral music is easy to make though, especially when you use the expensive VSTs. They're even already EQed for you; all you have to do is add reverb and compression and you're set. So if you're only making music with that orchestra VST by itself then things will be quite simple.

I feel it gets more difficult when you combine mutiple VSTs and record live instruments though (which barely anyone does in that video by the way). This can be heard in TAM's song, as his live violin is drowned out by the synth. This is especially disappointing since he's so good at violin but you can't even hear it properly.

tl;dr 1) download expensive music applications off The Pirate Bay 2) become expert Touhou orchestral remixer.

>You need some practice. I wonder how much people on /jp/ actually learn how to read sheet music and/or play a real instrument before trying to use a VST software. (Because I would assume it would make a hell of a difference).
Well that's the thing, it doesn't require proficiency with an instrument (sure as hell helps though). However, you do need to have an understanding of theory and the ability to work on things for you know, longer than 10 minutes.

That's a potentially dangerous trap to fall into, though. You can fiddle around till it sort of sounds right, but the expression is often not there because of the chance arrival - if you don't have much 'live' experience, there's a tendency to make 'dead' sounding music, and it'll be may to dig yourself out of that quagmire.

>>2753825
You don't even need much understanding of theory - you just have to find out how stuff works. You don't need to know that a 'one bar long' note is a quarter note, as long as you're able to use it correctly, and you don't need to know that the # things are 'sharps', as long as you understand that they have a slightly higher frequency than the regular note.

I don't know much about music theory (hell, I even had to ask what a riff was when someone said I made a nice riff), but as long as you understand what you're doing (which you can pretty much learn by trial and error), it's all fine.

You honestly don't need much to get into music, just the will to experiment and work with what sounds good. Being able to play an instrument and being able to write a good piece are very different things. There are many people who are amazing musicians from a technical standpoint but can't write a song to save their life, and likewise there are people who are technically poor musicians who are amazing songwriters. I will, however, say that playing an instrument will certainly enrich ones experience.

Remember Bokusatsu who used to do karaoke to anime songs? He hasn't been on in a while, but here's my tribute to him.

Bad ass, man. It gets a bit sloppy at times, but good stuff for an improv. Probably should have recorded the guitar part separate though (using headphones) cause it's kind of hard to hear the song.
Now you just gotta add some rhythm guitar and make it into a legit remix.

Thanks, I never bothered catching anything on video before so I've gotten into the habit of playing sloppy.

Man, what kind of VN are you making? This is some seriously disturbing music. But it's pretty cool too at the same time - really like the minimalist approach you've taken here, especially at the beginning and ending sections. You might want to fix the abrupt cutout at the end, and maybe shave off a few seconds of silence at the beginning. Also, I notice that your noise floor is kind of high, not sure if this is intentional though. Good stuff though, I enjoyed it.

Also, this here is the continuation of >>2719171:

It was pretty fun to make - goes back to the basics using simple MIDI synths (ie, the Microsoft GS Softsynth), but with some extreme retexturing via pitchbending.
