I made a pon because I was still far away from tenpai and didn't want anyone else to get a higher score because of that.

I planned on adding the haku to the other three as soon as I draw the tile I need for tenpai so I can get rinshan kaihou, but since it didn't come soon enough and the other guys hands were building up too fast, I used that chi to be in tenpai. After the chi I have to discard the haku. If I could chi and kan at the same time, I'd do it.

Yes - tsumo itself is 1 han, but having the hand completely closed means an easier time to ron off someone else as well. Because he already HAS 1 yaku from his yakuhai. I was a bit unclear, but honestly, the idiot saying:
>>2710701
>kan
>rinshan
>kandora: Haku
>Where is your common sense now?
Is so far off base with how the game works it's not even funny. Yes - there's a small chance (1% or so) that kandora indicator will be chun. But would you rather have 1% chance, or a lot higher? No points vs some points?

What I'm trying to say is - that kan was stupid. But the defense they're is a lot more stupid than the kan itself. You don't PLAN for rin shan (or kan dora), unless you're a fucking retard who thinks Saki is about mahjong and what they're doing when playing it is in any way reasonable.

No, I definitely meant Saki. The Akagi anime is pretty ok when it comes to the mahjong part - bit unrealistic, but not even close to Saki (Saki knows what's in the dead wall, and makes closed kans to get a rin shan kai hou. wat.). Unless it's a specific reference to an Akagi episode, which would be possible, since it was ages since I watched the show itself, and have forgotten most details of it. If it's a reference, I admit to being completely stupid.

Not as stupid as AoA though, but still.

True, it's really stupid.

The only exception is when you're a fucking genius with outherworldly luck and Fukumoto draws a manga about you. Ohh and you must play against a blind guy who tries to counter your Rinshan by the means of cheating.

Urabe dora 12 is just an example. He kans, and then reveals the dora of his kan.

3 times, consecutively.

Of course, Akagi manages to stop him.

The difference is that in Akagi, it still feels like real mahjong up until the blind guy's arc - that's where it starts to touch and go a bit much, but up until that it feels realistic. Saki goes straight for the "Oh, I planned this kokushi musou." and similar shit.

Of course, i don't really need an excuse to watch lesbians playing mahjong. But I watched Akagi first for the mahjong, and then for the mindfuck. Saki I only watch for the lesbians.

No.
In Akagi, only Akagi and Washizu have godly luck. Akagi cheats quite a bit too, and I'm willing to let Washizu go because he's supposedly a one-in-a-million type person when it comes to luck. Also, possessed by demons. Everyone else is pretty ordinary.

In Saki, there's at least two people a team who have some sort of "super power". The main character is guaranteed a win if she calls a Kan, come on. Tacos making you better and mahjong, and a Geass? I enjoy Saki, but Saki is not a mahjong anime. It's the usual lovable moemoe shit that happens to use mahjong as a plot device.

There are a lot of good mahjong moves in Saki. It's exactly the same kind of Mahjong than in Akagi, ie fictional Mahjong, with characters that can see things you cannot see when you normally play ('the flow of the game, the spirit of the tiles, it's all the same thing)

If I can use the chance to make the kan later to win I do it, but since I made 2 CHIs in 2 consecutive turn afterwards, making a kan was no longer possible.

For what it's worth, I think I can see what AoA is trying to rationalise, and I doubt there's anything wrong with saving a kan until it would be maximally effective.

That said, I would never try to win like that. Ever.

You've already given up when you're not even trying.

The chance for rinshan kaihou is the same as for any other draw from the wall and do you know how often you've seen riichi ippatsu tsumo? And even if you don't get your rinshan kaihou, it's not as if you've lost anything through that.

Claiming an honor tile for a pon has 3 key benefits:
1. You don't give anyone additional dora and ura dora.
2. You (may) have a chance for rinshan kaihou.
3. If someone declares riichi, you have one more save discard that doesn't interfere with building your hand in any way.

>> No.2717073

I've seen some really stupid Kan calls. Sometimes, I can justify that the players are close to winning, or are even just getting greedy and hoping for Dora. I've been there, sometimes it actually works out and you magically get 4 Dora. Most of the time it doesn't. That little bit of hope lets you make stupid calls.

Other times, I have no idea what the fuck they're thinking. If someone calls Riichi, don't call a Kan. It's just retarded, you're only giving someone in Tenpai more dora.

You have 4 seconds to act, and a bonus of 10 seconds in each game. Once you've wasted your 10 seconds, you're stuck with 4 seconds.

I just don't like the slowness of ari red, it's boring and irritating when you have to wait 4 seconds every turn.
