Enemy nations will become marginally more powerful over time (they gain troops and money for healing), and the seals will break if too-too much time passes without any breaking via. conquering houses (never happened to me). Also, money is generally useless for anything except for healing; battles are generally far more effective for increasing unit sizes.

I've got 10 commanders, I buy as many troops as possible every turn (and rest to get 50 back), but by god that last castle in Tenshi just has too many more troops than I do, and the goddamn bar starts almost completely in the red. Fighting that first house, the pink house and then Iga left my troop number small while Tenshi declares war on me with 8,000 troops and 22 commanders.
