So, /jp/, I started learning Japanese almost a week ago, so far I just know the hiragana syllabary (writing and pronunciation), I will start with the katakana tomorrow. There is a long way ahead for me (still have to learn the 2000 kanjis and then the most important and difficult thing - the words).
I must say that while it sure is one of the most difficult languages to master, im having a lot of fun in learning it, the way you have to use these symbols which are completely different from our letters make it very entertaining (and adddictive) to learn.

So, how has it gone for you? Does anybody here actually know how to write/read/speak it? If so, how has been your experience

Thats what happened with me. By the end people were still struggling and faltering like retards while trying to read kana, struggling with the -masu form and shitting themselves at the sight of a kanji, while I could read hundreds of kanji and do grammatical wizardy. I ended up sitting an exam a couple of years more advanced than the one they sat, and was always given harder work in class. The only thing that stopped them being good is thinking that sitting around in class and learning what you're told is a good idea and never striving to learn more by yourself. Really, you have to make it your life, and since I'm a shut-in who lives off Japanese bishoujo cartoons and games that was no problem.
Except I didn't talk to anyone in my class, and there was a bad atmosphere against me for being superior ;___;

First off, OP, you're doing alright with the kanji. Don't let anon's talk fool you; we're god-tier in here, so our standards are too high.

Second, DO NOT separate the learning of vocabulary from the learning of kanji. The two are hopelessly intermixed. If you think of them as one-or-the-other, you will get tripped up.

Third, learn at your own pace, not the class' pace. Unless the class' pace is faster, in which case, try harder to keep up.

Fourth, practice your penmanship as well as book-learning the kanji. It does wonders for the recall to be able to have the words you want engraved in your muscle memory as well as your grey matter.

Get an SRS and do it in a couple of months. Try to cover as many new ones a day as possible, and simply aim to have covered each at least once in as fast a time as possible. Then, do it again. Each time through, it'll get easier and you'll remember them. Each time through, you'll have to repeat ones you've forgotten. In time, the kanji equilibrium will balance out, and you'll have loaded the kanji into your brain.

Two or three years of dicking around being exposed to japanese via anime and music. One year or less of actually paying attention to the things I heard or read. Some very light kanji learning here and there, enough for about 50 or less that I've seen randomly online or in the past. I got the kana down though. I can't understand much aside from some very, very simple sentences and random words I hear here and there. Not impressive at all, but I feel like it's definitely progress though. I know it's not practical like this, but I enjoy it. If I weren't such a penny pincher and was guaranteed a class without narutards (or atleast people who didn't act like weeaboos), I'd take a class. It's a combination of laziness and cheapness makes me not do it.

日本の英語教育は、テスト用で、あまり実用性が無かったけどw。
海外の日本語教育も、テスト用で、漢字を一つでも多く覚えるだけになって
るのじゃないかな。
日本の漢字は、中国と違って、一つの漢字に複数の音がある。
音読み・訓読み。訓読みだって、複数ある漢字も多い。
漢字より、優先すべき日本語もあると思うんだけどね。
漢字で挫折して、日本語の学習を止めるくらいなら、漢字は後回しすべきだ

My biggest thing was learning the kanji... until I started doing that, I was completely lost. At first it seems retarded, but it turns out there aren't that many different bits to them, and once you have them down, you can start reading real stuff. Learn the kanji for *everything*, not just the stuff you're required to for your course/JLPT test/whatever. It takes a little extra time, but is totally worth it, because once it makes sense, it's all easy street.

Oh, and learn the stroke orders! Do it right from the start, and don't fuck it up. I can't explain why. Just trust me on this.

Only a JLPT4 language file there, but if you're just starting, that's probably what you want.

Don't sweat the grammar stuff too much. It'll come. Conjugations, the essential particles, maybe te-/imperative/polite forms, and you'll be able to figure out the rest as you encounter it. Japanese grammar is way easier than English grammar, and if you have done any higher math or comp sci, you'll immediately figure out that it's just like using postfix operators. (Or if you've ever used an RPN calculator, same deal.) Beautifully designed language.

Resources I started with: Tae Kim's grammar guide, Kanji Game, and WWWJDIC. I read kid's books, pretty much a Hardy Boys level. You don't need to start too simple: go with stuff that has kanji, but maybe also the hiragana underneath. My public library has many such books, which makes life good.

It totally helps to have a Japanese pen pal, or to meet exchange students.

ケンカするなよ。俺は振り仮名がついてる漫画を読むのが日本語の勉強にい
いと思う。振り仮名がつくだけで、振り仮名から漢字に変換してpcや電子
辞書などで意味を調べられる。ただ漫画の対象年齢が上がると振り仮名がつ

戦時中の中国も既に内乱中だったし、安定した政府がまだ確立されていなか
った。その点もくれぐれ考慮せざるを得ないと思う。市民を死守するのが

そこに、中国人も避難をし、難を逃れました。

書かれているように、「南京安全区」には、5－20万人、あるいは、20－25万
人が避難をしていました。

当時の南京の人口は、20万人だとも言われています。
「南京事件」の犠牲者は、言われているよりは、はるかに少ない可能性があ
るでしょうね。
