It's not just /a/. /jp/ is terrible now, too.

4chan is gone. I don't agree with those retarded spamming posts about some anontalk bullshit, but this place is gone. It's not just the administration of the boards that's an issue. It's the people that now populate them.

It's a sad day when /k/ is probably the best board on 4chan.

As someone who's been on /a/ for 3 years and posts on /jp/ as well since the split, I can assure you that I've noticed a global decline in quality. Though not as noticeable at some times more than others. I don't know when all the Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece threads came out of nowhere though. It seemed like such a sudden change that it seemed 1 day there were no threads of them at all, then the next day hundreds of threads popped up and had many posters as well.

I'm not the type of person to judge other people's tastes. They can like what they want, I don't care, I won't go into their threads and sagebomb/spam/whatever. But I just see that as an indication of how much /a/ has change. There's Naruto, Bleach, and One piece threads every hour of the day. There are rarely any actual discussions.

But you know, I always find myself going back there. The same with /jp/, though it's not as noticeable of a change as /a/. /jp/ is pretty much the same threads repeated over and over again.

"Japanese bird cooking spaghetti"
"So I'm playing this VN
[OP's tastes are inferior to my tastes, bla bla]"
"3D Asian model thread #489, continue on!"

Though there are more discussions here, and in terms of spammers and such it's more clean and organized, I still find /jp/ just as boring as /a/.

But of course, I'm just as hooked on both as I've always been.

No, the problem isn't really Naruto or Bleach. You're looking at it the wrong way. It's showing how many different people there are from the /a/ long ago. It's showing how large a migration has been made from whatever boards they came from to here. As such, new /a/ has a different attitude than old /a/. New /a/ is formed by a completely different group of people now. Obviously I'm not talking about everyone, there are still people on /a/ who have been browsing long before the new member boom, but the problem is some people have just adapted to the style of new /a/.

Also, newer people who come to /a/ and see the way a majority of people on /a/ post. They see that as the norm of /a/ and adapt to that style. So in a sense, you can say that the new posters of today are just adapting to the new posters of yesterday, who all adapted to eachother when the flood of new people came in.

I kinda feel like I'm rambling, I realize how dumb my explanation sounds, I'm too hot, tired, and lazy to try to revise it better.

The decay is ever progressing. It consumes all and it will be our end. But we can have some good times before that inevitable day, right?

The population numbers have surpassed the ideal critical mass, and just as in any online community it spelled its demise. Higher post rate, shorter posts, more threads, younger posters. The same story told a million times.
We still have another good year off /jp/. Things aren't so bad, and janitor keeps a semblance of order. I only fear that the barriers that we impose on ourselves and keeps most posters out, likewise keeps discussion and content out. All we need is a dry season of VN translations and further dismissing of everything over a week old as "too popular, shit right?" and stagnation will drive us to the ground.

I think most people on /jp/ who are serious about VNs are learning Japanese, so maybe someday untranslated games will be discussed almost as much as translated ones. Of course Type-Moon will still make up 80% of VN threads.

>> No.2684990

>>2684917
That's one of the biggest problems I find with /jp/. A lot of posters are too elitist and go for the "my tastes are superior to OP's" style of thread killing. They divert attention away from the VN discussion and more into a debate over who's shit smells better. I may not have just noticed it as much before, but I don't remember /jp/ doing this to almost every thread. Before if you didn't like a particular VN or anything most people would ignore the thread (obvious exceptions to this, not everyone can resist the temptation to crap on a thread).

I'm not saying adding negative feedback to a VN is bad, don't take me the wrong way. You can express your opinion on the VN or whatever the topic is about. But it seems most people now just want to get into a thread and post "Its shit, and you should such shit caus my shit is less shit than your shit. Discuss."

It's slowly turning into what /a/ pretty much is. On /jp/ we at least still use sage politely. But these kinds of posts are one step away from just posting sage in all fields and posting a picture of a sage(hurr wordplay). It just leads to unnecessary shitstorms all around.

So I'm really going to have to learn japanese then, huh?
I think I'll go with Plan A. Find a new hobby. Until I run out of boards. Always a step ahead of entropy.

>>2684973
Pre-split /a/ was more mature by comparison. Less mindless repetition of things, and more actual discussion. Now it's bandwagons everywhere and people wanting to join up into the fad anime of the season, spamming their screencaps and shouting posts of only a few words. Also, tripfags. There were only a dozen or so back then, and they weren't based around a gimmick either.

There's no significant difference in /jp/ after a full year, except for the lack of roleplaying, junior idols, and the addition of several daily doses and trolls.

We had daily doses in those days, too.
And there are still only a dozen or so tripfriends [that matter].

Except that it brought the idea that daytime was hell. Effectively turning it into a barren wasteland devoid of proper content.
The boards are what we make of them, and we ruined /a/ in great part by making it seem worse than it really was. Until it turned worse beyond our wildest guesses.

"new /jp/" isn't exactly new. /jp/ in itself is fairly new, so it's not like it's old enough to have too much of a drastic change from where it started off. But I explained one of the problems I've noticed with current /jp/ that I didn't see so much in older /jp/.

As for /a/, well that you can notice the change. It moves way too fast now, before when posts moved slower more people actually cared about what they were posting. Now /a/ is pretty much going down the /v/ path of becoming /a/ - Animu & Randumb

Trolls (or at least wanna be trolls), spam, crap posts everywhere. The problem is, trolling and stuff is fine so long as its in moderation. But the new guys think it's funny to just crap on everything they see. There's almost never a post on /a/ anymore without some kinda troll in a thread somewhere. Nobody takes anything seriously anymore. All the good threads die quickly because of how fast the board moves.

POST IMAGE LIMIT makes it a hassle to post at times, and pisses people off. This is really new, but it did nothing to help the spam on /a/. By raising the image limit, Moot essentially opened the door for a new, way more annoyed form of spam. Text spamming. At least image spamming was semi-useful. You could find a rare image you've never seen before and save it. You can even ignore the post all together because it wasn't taking up too much space. But now we have text spammers, and they're everywhere. Posting wiki spam and nonsense.

Also, people get aggravated when every post they make gets a "FLOOD DETECTION", so because they're pissed off they decide to make crap posts. Whats worse is that /a/non loves to blame everything else as a scapegoat and completely ignores that the real problem is the community as a whole.

I'm sure there are many more factors to the problems on /a/ and /jp/, but it'd take much too long to compile all my theories on everything.

Considering the Tohou, 'how does i learned japanese' and such threads on the 1st page, when did /jp/ become such a horrible board? It's like tripfags sucked all the good out of it and left it to die.

You really think tripfags are creating these shitty threads?

The only one that still does is ISM, and he's an old /n/igger. That's what he does.

You really have to give Anonymous more credit. Tripfags aren't the end all and be all of /jp/.

I agree with your post, most of the bad posts on /a/ are caused by the over-excessive trolling. Trolls posts a comment, retards get baited, thread derailed and over.

The only way to fix this would be more moderation, moot hasn't even recruited any new janitors from... 1 year? 2 years? However long ago it was when he was asking for applications.

>> No.2685088

I really doubt moot would bother to do anything to fix or improve this board. /jp/ is the redheaded stepchild of 4chan, it seems.

>> No.2685089

Really, I don't think that /jp/ changed all that much. I just think that my sense of humor and tastes changed enough to the point where I have some sort of relative incompatibility with most of the things and jokes posted on /jp/.

Yes, that is possible, but you also need to remember that it's Anonymous that runs this board. Whenever it's good, it's Anonymous. Whenever it's bad, it's Anonymous. Giving all the credit to the tripfags does Anonymous a disservice. /jp/ = Anonymous; 4chan = Anonymous. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Just came from a shower, adding on more info about the text spamming. Not only is it annoying and large, making it cover a decent portion of the page, but it also draws more users away from larger posts. Now when people see larger posts they ma not even bother reading, because of wikispam. They may just think its another wikipedia spam post and ignore it completely. this means less people will read posts that are actually thought out. This makes less people want to post long thought out posts (whats the point of nobody reads it right?)

There's already enough of that on /a/, and nobody takes anything seriously over there anyway. The thread will turn into a joke, and besides it's not like it's something I really want to get out into the open. All this is known by a lot of people. Very much aware of this, but you start to really see the effects of it take a large toll over time. As I said before, a flood of new people come. They try to adapt to posting on /a/, but the people they're learning to adapt from are also new posters. So they're learning how to fit in by people who are still learning how to fit in.

That's my theory on it anyway.

Yes, the same with Bleach. The first arcs were pretty well accepted. But as it continued on most just dropped it. Also, the fanbase completely ruined it. This is why I don't care if people like it or not. It's perfectly fine and I won't hold it against you, you're entitled to your own tastes. I liked Naruto when it first started as well, same with Bleach. But I thought it just got boring and turned into crap.
