2665440 No.2665440 [Reply] [Original]

Rule 1: Take it easy - We don't care about how inuyashasgirlfriend1997 made the most retarded weeaboo video in youtube and you "raged" for 26 minutes to it while killing your cat with your keyboard in the process. Or how some kid in Gaia plays Touhou and FS/N. We just take it easy, since we know the cause of most of these things are kids acting like kids (and if they aren't kids, we know they are just retards). This also means we don't want stupid drama.

Rule 2: Don't respond to trolls - If some guy posted something really stupid and provocative that made you angry and you want to kill him, don't respond to him. Don't even bother to tell him off while using sage; it's most likely a troll that just wants some replies. In /jp/, troll threads tend to be really easy to spot, so there's really no excuse for this. If too many people get baited, it will end up in a stupid 200 post long drama thread nobody wants to see in the first page.

Rule 3: Don't use smilies - Smilies aren't accepted in /jp/, please refrain from using them. We are all heartless bastards who don't want to see what kind of faces you make IRL while posting (This also applies to reaction images, if you want to post them so badly go to /a/ or /v/) Exceptions: ;_; (Life-like texture ;_;), 2ch smilies and ransmirk.jpg

Rule 4: Keep your memes in your board - We aren't meme fans, try to keep your memes in /b/. However, as every board in 4chan, we have our own memes too (even if we don't spam them all the time like in /b/). the most common ones are: The Pleasure of Being Cummed Inside (/lounge/ forced meme, became the generic response to every translation request), Japanese Bird Cooking pasta (forced meme that became popular), Hoopdog/Awesomedog (HOLY SHIT A DOG JUMPING 8 HOOPS ON FLAMES)

>> No.2665444

Rule 5: Irony is art - Sarcasm and irony are funny, however "LOL I DONT LIKE THIS SO I HAVE TO ACT LIKE A RETARD XD" isn't accepted. Acting like a retard to "mock" something you dislike only makes you worse than the people you are trying to mock. Neither is spamming the board with stupid shit just to be funny.

Rule 6: Be tolerant - This is 4chan, it's impossible to post here without being insulted at least once. We don't want this to become a forum, but we don't want this to become /b/ either; just try to be kind the most you can, excessive swearing and "rage" isn't cool.

Rule 7: Trolling - Trolling is fun, but it's too easy to generate stupid, annoying drama too easily, especially when you overdo it. Try to avoid trolling unless you can make it funny. More importantly, don't keep pressing when everyone is already annoyed of your shit, it's not clever at all. Please know when to stop.

Rule 8: GETs - GETs are dumb and boring, nobody cares about a stupid number. Don't act surprised if somebody scores a GET and people don't react to it. Just ignore it.

Rule ⑨: Requests - If you want to download "X," check /rs/ first. If it fails (and is porn), you can also try /r/. If that fails too, try Google. Also check the archive (archive.easymodo.net), it has a nice search feature. If it's an image someone posted, you can try the [View same] feature in the archive or iqdb.yi.org. Also try anisearch.net, it's a search engine for the *boorus. If you want the source of a doujin some anon posted, check the filename first, you don't want to be a dumbass that asked /jp/ for source on something that can be easily recognized by the filename. If everything failed, then ask /jp/.

Rule 10: Reports - Nobody cares if you reported a thread, it's not like the OP is going to delete the thread just because you reported it. Don't make single-word post saying "reported," it only leads to dumb meta-arguments about what "/jp/ really is about."

>> No.2665448

Rule 11: Imagedumps - Yes, we all know about the boorus, anisearch and Google Image Search, but we aren't going to stop posting imagedumps just because you don't like them. Go to a text board if you don't like imagedumps or just hide them using 4chan's Firefox Extension.

Rule 12: Don't be a "normalfag" - Most of the users here are loser weeaboo "NEET"s. Nobody cares if your girlfriend is a supermodel or if you are more successful than us, we enjoy our way of living, even if we feel lonely.

Rule 13: Sage - In general, sage doesn't have a negative connotation in /jp/. It doesn't mean "I HATE YOUR POST," it's just a command that lets you post without bumping. Sagebombing is also fucking retarded, a single bump can ruin your entire sagebomb and if you reach the bump limit the OP can just recreate the thread. If you don't like a thread, just hide it using 4chan's Firefox Extension.

Rule 14: Grammar and spelling - Type coherently. Firefox has a spell checker, there's no excuse. Also use proper capitalization and punctuation. Yes, we actually care about that.

Rule 15: Tripcodes - Using a tripcode or name will instantly turn you into an attention whore. Don't use one without a good reason if you don't want to be hated by every anon.

Rule 16: Don't post an ambiguous /h/ doujin/picture without the source. Otherwise you'll start a "sauce request" shitstorm. If you don't have the source, then please specify it in your post so that you'll save your fellow /jp/ers some time by not having to ask you for the source.

Rule 17: Don't roleplay - Roleplaying is retarded, if you want to roleplay, go somewhere else.

Why do they mock our guidelines? It's almost if they want /jp/ to be shitty.

As good as 4chan's culture is in respect to other forums, we made lots of bad habits. Some of these guidelines like rules number 5, 9, and 10 could really help us get beyond our habits.

>> No.2666048,2 [INTERNAL]

>>2666048,1
That's because people don't care. You can design guidelines all you want, but unless there's a way to enforce them, nothing will change. That's why it's better to follow through with what you like than to limit someone else. Make threads you like, post in threads you like, etc... Keep it positive. If something really goes against the board, then you can complain. Just keep it to a minimum.

>> No.2666048,3 [INTERNAL]

It's easier.

Plus it doesn't help that anyone looks pretentious, with a high and mighty attitude, when trying to tell people what to do.
Instead of seeing the long term benefit, they just take it as a personal insult.

Another factor in play is that there's no sense of community, not building towards something or seeing that the good you do is reflected on the board. It gives a sense of every man for himself. Then why would one bother improving, if nobody else is doing anything?

Better do as >>2666048,2 and not let ourselves get bothered by things far out of our control.

You are not the otaku board police that makes the calls of what kind of content is suitable. It is apparent that you gladly engage in this "board culture" pointless wank. Still, please keep it to yourself. This stupid ruleset is of your own retarded attitudes, and nothing more. Stop being so idiotic waste of space, okay. Why are you injecting words into our post. Re-read this thread from top to bottom. Noone cares if you're feeling butthurt because a Janitor deleted your "I LOVE JAPAN PERIOD" thread.

These guidelines are supposed to be an addition to /jp/'s culture. If you analyze the behavior of the all of the boards you'll notice that all boards are NOT created equally. Relative to /a/ and /v/, /jp/ has a really good userbase. Despite this fact, the creator(s) of these guidelines believed /jp/ could be better.

For example:

>Rule 16: Don't post an ambiguous /h/ doujin/picture without the source. Otherwise you'll start a "sauce request" shitstorm. If you don't have the source, then please specify it in your post
Despite how good /jp/'s userbase is, we tend to keep making these simple mistakes.

1. Op makes a thread with an /h/ doujin with no source.
2. Idiot sees said thread and request "sauce."
3. As time moves on more idiots request "sauce." Now the thread is no longer a thread about the op's picture, but a shitstorm of people pressing their F5 keys.
4. The op finally delivers sauce.
5. The thread autosages.

Judging from your post, you obviously haven't been here long enough to be annoyed by these things.

Also they aren't rules, they are guidelines for newfriends to learn how they should behave in /jp/ if they want to be taken seriously. Notice how every board has a different behavior.

>There are the rules in 4chan made by moot. Stick with them

Moot doesn't give a damn about this board, he just made it to get rid of Touhou and the visual novels that were constantly spammed in /a/. It's obvious he made some half-assed rules just to fill the FAQ.

Name ONE rule on that guideline that wouldn't improve /jp/'s userbase.

>Stop forcing your false rules.
Get back to reading comprehension 101. Name one rule in our guideline that tells people not to post x topic. Ironically, the guideline does the opposite of that. See rule #10.
>Rule 10: Reports - Nobody cares if you reported a thread, it's not like the OP is going to delete the thread just because you reported it

I would like to hear if someone can help >>2666048,23 that video spurred my interest.

After all, it's just someone that hasn't understand what we tried to do with a set of guidelines. Not forcing them, just proposing.
That, and that he isn't happy with the dismissal offhand of Japan threads.
The reason that's there is because it's better, just try to have a Japan thread, it will be nothing but trolls and the inevitable Hiroshima/Nanking discussion that never ends.

It isn't us that made it that way. It was the collective, and it's been that way since the first few weeks, when shutting all the threads with that slant was the only defense against /n/ posters looking for a new home.
The guidelines been there for a few months. Anti-japan sentiment has always been there.
This isn't an opinion, it's a fact. I'm afraid you'll have to learn and live with that.

>> No.2666048,30 [INTERNAL]

>>2666048,27
>The point is that you have no business of making up guidelines what type of content is suitable in /jp/.
With your logic, telling someone not to use emoticons is wrong. "Hey /a/nons, keep posting in KoGs threads because I'm in no position to tell you not to."

>Stop forcing your false guidelines and stick with the real rules.
To be honest with you I couldn't care less about moot's ambiguous rules that he set for /jp/. But I'll take your bait and give you the opposing argument. But before we start, I love it how you failed to mention at least 1 of these non-otaku related topics. Does their wapanese nature embarrass you or something?

>Again, you do not make these rules. You have no say-so in these things. Stop forcing your false rules.
Notice how you're the only person complaining. Let me guess, one of our janitors deleted one of your "I LOVE JAPAN PERIOD" threads?

According to moot:

>/jp/ - Japan/General
>1. All things Japanese welcome!

But clearly that isn't the case. Try making a thread about a Japanese rock band and see how fast it gets deleted for being /mu/ material on /jp/. Jr Idols are very /jp/ related but that doesn't stop the mods from permabanning you for posting it. Let's put it this way, if there's already a board for [insert topic] it doesn't belong on /jp/ period. And no this isn't my opinion, it's the opinion of the mods. In my first weeks on /jp/, I was just like you. I still remember the time I got a three day ban for making a few sushi threads. So again, tell me what you want to talk about, then I'll tell you if I 'believe' it should belong on /jp/.

>> No.2666048,31 [INTERNAL]

There is absolutely no official guideline by moot saying that /jp/ should only be about otaku specific content

No one has to "force" otaku culture onto /jp/ because that's already what most of the users are interested in. Threads about real Japanese culture only get inflammatory replies because no one wants to discuss it. Can't you people take a hint?

I'm not sure why you would even try to talk about Japan on a board full of weeaboos who have no interest in it outside of otaku shit. I'm sure there are better places on the internet for that.

Hopefully this post will be the final nail in the coffin:
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/7903/1207959104666f.jpg

As moot said, "/jp/ will be a board for all of the weeaboo things that lack a board."

On an unrelated note, Touhou and VN fags fill entitled because it was their content that led to the birth of /jp/. Though, a person from /v/, /b/, or /r9k/ such as yourself wouldn't be aware of that. I'll say this one more time, Touhou, figs, and Visual Novels led to the birth of /jp/. And if you look at moot's sticky, no one was lobbying for 3D, 'non-otaku' related content.

If you want to discuss 'sushi' /ck/ is the perfect board for you.

If you want to discuss 'Hiragana' /lang/ is the perfect board for you.

If you want to discuss Japanese animals, literature, fashion, and music. /an/, /book/, /fa/, and /mu/ are the perfect boards for you.

>"If Origami is such a big part of Japanese culture, how come I cant discuss it on /jp/?"
/po/

For JAVs, go to /t/.

Are we done now or am I going to have to keep educating you?

That's okay, argument stopped a few posts back.

Can't say I'm too happy with the outcome though. Suigin was quick to anger, and most of the interlopers went straight for name calling.

Show some of the decorum and ease of mind that we so flaunt as our guiding principle. Take it easy, expose facts and support them.

At least he's leaving with a better understanding of why /jp/ isn't for Japan culture. A shame since there could be interesting topics, but this isn't simply the place for them.

>> No.2666048,42 [INTERNAL]

Again,

you don't decide what kind of content is recommentable in /jp/.

You don't decide which content belongs in /jp/ or goes in other boards.

You down own /jp/.

/jp/ - Japanese/General
All things japanese welcome.
Meaning that all things about japan are suitable on-topic content.

You're letting your anger take the best of you.

We reiterate, we don't decide or make the rules. Neither enforce them.
All we do is recommend far better places for relevant discussion. Most anonymous won't let you hold a good informative thread if the topic is not considered of their liking. We point you to far better places were the posters will be far more willing to help you and talk with you.

>Meaning that all things about japan are suitable on-topic content.
I'm afraid not. It's a common misconception due to the vague nature of our board description. As you can see in the first post of the board, we have a specific purpose: Be the dumping board of everything unrelated to other boards.

Otherwise, we would be discussing Anime and Manga as well in /jp/. It's Japanese, isn't it? But that's not the case, for there's a board for it, namely /a/.

Hope this solves your questions and that you realize now, we're no policing force. Just anonymous that would like the board to be all it can be.

Fine, let's agree to disagree on this issue. In the end, we should let the mods decide. In my opinion, our janitors and moderators have done a marvelous job portraying moot's vision for /jp/. I'm going to start keeping track of how much of your 'non-otaku' related threads get deleted. Have a good day Mr anarchist.

>>2666048,41

>> No.2666048,47 [INTERNAL]
