You forgot that the the sound compression is probably going to be such that every song will be reduced to crackling, garbled trash.
Elite Beat Agent / Ouendan could barely cope with this issue back in the day, and all it was stored in the cart was a handfuk of tracks along with some crude 3D models. I'd rather not know how will iM@S DS will fare, given how they'll have to cram together more than that.

Yeah seems like they tried to mesh all the different idols together. Middle one looks like an agglutination of the loli characters (+ Haruka-like appearance, Iori-like background), Left one looks like a fusion between Chihaya and Azusa with an original background thrown in to pander at the userbase, and right one a mesh of the less feminine idols (Makoto, Ritsuko).

Besides the obvious Haruka swap (even then, put them next to each other and the differences can be apparent), I don't see the other two connections.
Once new art shows up we'll see. Besides, it's always the personalities that sell the characters.

If didn't play the PSP version there we a very problems. Mouth didn't move with music/text sometimes. Music was a bit downgraded but still good Movement on outfits are stiff. There are a few things. Think about how much worst it can be for the DS with its limited hardware, cart size, and etc. I don't think we will be seeing DLC if its for the DS too unless its DSi but even then... Nintendo pretty stupid about these things.
