>That cancer-script riddled
Unless I've missed something lately, I never noticed it to contain malicious script code, though I can see it performing poorly though.
>nico rip-off successed is purely because it is backed CCP government.
A great factor of their success was due to being able to curry to the desires of the CCP, but that's not how they outgrew longer-established clones like ACFun (which wasn't completely clean, but was mainly infighting).
>They literally announced gachi is banned on that site in a country-wide news to attract viewers and push off any competition.
I think that was little to do with bilibili wanting it for advertisement, and more because the government bans explicit recognition of homosexuality in the media, and bilibili crossed a line by attempting to keep gachi up as a fad, despite its source origin. They even went as far as to eventually hide known gachi content from newfags (those who did not pass the knowledge quiz) to avoid people making a stink about it. Gachi was highly popular before they removed it, and they had no real incentive to mess with it unless they had their hands forced. Which they did, along with other MAD which could be construed as dissenting cultural/political commentary. If you have articles that state otherwise, I can read mandarin.
>They have the similar monetize model like pay for hd video and time seek
They absolutely do, and I think the time seek is BS.
But for the pay-for-HD? In bilibili's case you can view 1080p as a user, and I'll defend them on paying for higher quality on two points:
1. They already burn through money offering free 1080p, relative to their operating costs and YT's relative costs. Look at any video upload site at notable scale. How many of them offer anything more than 720p/1080p for free without some major caveat? Twitch doesn't store much video and is backed by Amazon, Twitter/Tiktok is severely compressed, porn sites are usually malware/ad traps, etc. Youtube is the only one which can actually deliver much more than 1440p, at decent quality, with only some ads (that you and me block anyway), and they go all the way to 8K60fps.
Do you know why?
Because not only does Google increasingly own the datacenters and services required to host Youtube, but they are so fucking big that they directly peer with Tier-1 ISPs. That is, they don't pay an ISP to connect them to other ISPs - they effectively ARE their own provider in this context, and therefore provide the content directly to ISPs while paying much less for intermediary fees. AFAIK, no other non-subscription media provider has this sort of arrangment with nearly every ISP, excepting Twitch.
And this is assuming hosting in the USA. Niconico and Bilibili get screwed by hosting costs being several greater: https://blog.cloudflare.com/the-relative-cost-of-bandwidth-around-the-world/ . And they need to pony up for someone other party(s) to provide the hosting.
2. Bilibili still gives users (at least back in 2018) the ability to upload uncompressed videos themselves as long as they meet certain limits:
https://www.bilibili.com/read/cv329562/ (yeah yeah brony I know, but he explains it well)
And 3MB/s for free 1080p isn't bad if you can control the encoding, and is absolutely HD.
Here's an example from back when both NND and bili had 2MB 720p for free in 2017:
>NND (2181 kb/s, 1990 kb/s video, 182 kb/s audio)
>Bili (1980 kb/s, 1790 kb/s video, 186 kb/s audio), taken down of course
>plus download botnet to download like YT.
You mean the offline mode in their app?
You're not wrong, but almost every video upload service prevents and forbids and third-party download in the TOS, and the only site I know which allows none-members to download videos directly for free is iwara.tv (MMD video site, mostly R18), which is niche and low-traffic.
I will concede that bilibili makes it much more of a bitch to download video than youtube does, though.
>And chinks have no choice but give in. If you knew any chinkrune you could see it from their Youtube tier danmaku commemt.
>The nico's problem is more rooted in the conservative industry as a whole, where they rather make the safest choice. In recent years nico still host those live event pushing ZUN and other uploader on the stage as if they are some kind of TV celebrities.
I'm not saying bilibili is a wonderful video site that completely crushes NND. I'm just saying that in the Chinese market they are competent with working with what they got, relative to NND in Japan.
