It runs surprisingly well even on my laptop with "only" 1 GB of RAM. I've observed memory usage and it seems to be using less RAM at almost any given time than on my desktop computer which has more RAM. So they seem to have optimized in that area. I did notice more HDD activity at idle times but I'm quite surprised that it doesn't impair work as much as it does on Vista. So yes, if XP runs well on your computer, 7 should run acceptable I guess.

It even works reasonably well on my generic netbook (1.6 Atom/2gb/GMA950). Still, xp is faster, so I'll wait for better hardware to come out.

Ok I just went to my motherboard website.Doesn't seem like it has lan and chipset driver for windows7. Lets hope the vista driver of it is compatible with windows7. If the lan driver doesnt work I am gonna rage like the motherfucking fist of north star.

There's a pretty good chance that 7 will already come with drivers for it or that it will download them via Windows Update. If all else fails, the Vista drivers will most likely work.

So far I've tested Windows 7 on 4 machines and i can say even the oldest one had lan out of the box.

Applocale has the biggest problems with the UAC system so just turn it off when you're installing it. Else you can juse set unicode to japs.

>>2621945
On a x64 system you get a folder called Program Files (x86), you dont have to install shit into this folder but basically all x64 bit systems can perfectly emulate x86(32bit) system without any performance loss. So yes all your 32 bit software will run without a problem on x64 systems. If you have the option of installing the x64 version of the software do it. Usually software that has x64 version has issues with emulation thats why they make x64 version that software or they want to specifically make use of the 64bits, anyways for the normal customer there no difference except the maxed out ram.

TL;DR All 32bit software works on 64bit system. You should always download x64 version if available.

Well I too always avoided x64 because I remember x64 had massive problems once it came years ago, but I was irradiated at how i need to use the 36bit hack on vista and xp to get my 4gb of ram working so thats why i tried x64 this time and I'm surprised at how well win7 works with 32bit application, so far not a single problem. So yeah I'd actually recommend x64 this time, also korean shit gameguard works only on x64 as far as I know.

One question, how come Windows 7 is slower than XP? Is there any chance Windows 7 will be faster than XP by the time it gets released.

And is it just me or does Vista's GUI look a lot better than Windows 7. Those giant transparent boxes on Windows 7's taskbar looks awkward in comparison to Vista's nicely integrated taskbar. I wonder if that's Window 7's final GUI.
