Depends what you enjoyed about episode 1. To those that enjoyed the horror and creepiness, 2 will disappoint you. It sacrifices that to put a spin on the story. It also has a lot more action and supernatural stuff. You could say episode 2 is the real start of the series.

Episode 1: basic premise, told like your average horror/mystery novel. The tea party at the end gives you an example how the series will shift.

Episode 2: game board begins, introduction to the red text, series starts to really focus on the mystery aspect. Umineko shows its Phoenix Wright side.

Episode 3: takes the game board arguments to the next level, series continues focusing heavily on the mystery side. Episode 3 is by far the fan favorite of the three.

The horror aspects aren't exactly a big deal for me (though Umineko does do the whole suspense thing well) and I was pretty much hoping magic would come more into play. I'm happy as long as it hasn't got too much slice of life moments... when I'm reading them I can't help but think 'when's the next big event going to happen?' impatiently so it doesn't let me enjoy them.

Ryuukichi7 is kinda similar to Nasu in a way.
He has a good grasp of his story, he knows what he is doing and everything in Umineko is pretty consistent so far.
But his writing feels amateurish and suffer from too many repetitions, he also has a tendency of stating the obvious times and times again.
That makes the games longer than they should be.
It's still pretty good though.
