Main characters are most of the time generic, reach happiness. Support characters are usually what bring new characteristics and if they end up unhappy, readers just can't help but feel bad for them.

Because you're supposed to like the main character the best because it focuses on them and you know the most about them. Saying the main character is your favorite is a copout.
