Oh dear god. So many painful memories from teletext. I used to shop for all kinds of shit, including weird fetish porn and much more with that punk ass motherfucker. I also remember there being an escort service that operated through teletext. Good times.

I only read it for Gamecentral on C4.

I've noticed over the years, several of the users who mail in mention things related to our corner of the web.

Here's a Meltan reference I caught a while ago!

It's awesome.

I've posted there before a few times.

But I must say Teletext on digital TV (page 805 for GC) is much much better than the analogue version.

The reviewers also drop a few jokes in every now (like this pic here) and then which makes me think they are suppressing their power levels.

They are avid fans of the new Persona games, 3 and 4.

I've tried reading it on Digital TV but it just doesn't feel right, I quite like all the 8-bit multi coloured theme to the analogue version.

It was a form of information on demand/delivery system that was sent over analogue TV.

You pressed a button on your remote to access the service, then punched a 3 digit number to access the page you wanted.

Its kind of like a slow text based internet. You could find many things on it from news, TV guides, film, music, game reviews, holiday deals, recipes, and much much more.

Oh and now that everyone has the internet, its popularity has gone down and now that Analogue TV is being turned off, by 2010-2011 Teletext will be no more.

;_;

>> No.2574413

>>2574399
Yeah that was a pain, we got a new TV recently and it has a memory feature that saves each Teletext page so there is no real need for waiting and I can navigate to any page I want more or less instantly.

If you notice at the top of some of the screencaps theres "01 02 03 04 05 06" etc.. that's the saved pages.

How would you type things in, like in the OP's image? Or do you send snail-mail to the service, and they post it?

>> No.2574434

>>2574419
Its a read only service.

Before, you had to send it in via snail mail, but with the advent of technology you can send it any way you want except via the TV.

So through snail-mail, text messaging or emails. Most people use emails these days.

Although I have yet to send in a message to the inbox.

The staff in GC are big robot fans, they love Transformers and games like Armoured Core, I've always wondered if they've played the Super Robot Wars games... hmm..

E-mail gamecentral@teletext.co.uk and it should be published within a day, well it worked for me on the weekend's hot topic and also when I sent something in about Bangai-O DS.

The Inbox is only a chunk of gamecentral however.

Oh you crazy british and your teletext..

I wish we would even HAVE some kind of Gamechannel on ours... ;_;

All we have are retarded SMS chatrooms where people waste their money and Porn Ads. Sometimes subtitles, but rarely.

Hell, yeah. I love the modus operandi of TV channels here in Italy when it comes to Teletext.
Until a couple of years ago, you could be a small time local station that owed its very subsistence to nothing else but infomercials and satellite television hand-me-downs since everything else being aired boiled down to news broadcasts, and you could bet you were still entitled to your own token 1000 pages of Teletext (most of which were glitchy rubbish since they weren't meant to be accessed, by the way).

>> No.2574714

Oh man, Teletext. I haven't used this since 2002. It was awesome to check the TV programming before EPGs were decent. And it was the poor man's Internet when you couldn't be bothered to dial up your modem just to check the news.

Also, wow, wishing for Touhou on the 360. Even via UHF radio frequency, trolls delivered to your house!

It's an European thing. It's a poor man's, read-only Internet transmitted within the TV channel's frequency and displayed with shittastic, MS-DOS worthy graphics. Was useful to look up stuff you'd usually use the Internet for nowadays.

Slow as hell, too.
