Slowpoke here, just tried out YMK, and finished the aeka route.

I feel happy, but so sad at the same time that she has to endure so much hardship. I was very close to the verge of tears, and I am an emotional wall. The part where she almost got raped was the worst.

If you sort of want more Aeka and know a bit of Japanese (and/or can at least make use of AGTH + translatin' program) there's this game by ZERO called 'Itaikena Kanojo' which is sort of similar in a few ways.

Basically, there's this girl named Honoka who nobody likes. She gets bullied, mostly by the girls, but also picked on by the teachers etc. You, the protagonist, lost a bet with some friends and, as punishment, you have to confess to her and go out with her for a minimum of a week.

The game is awful because it's a lot meaner than Yume Miru Kusuri in some ways - Honoka honestly brings a lot of the negative attention on herself, but also has pretty consistently terrible luck. There's also a scene near the end which is sort of akin to the rooftop climax scene in YMK, and is in some ways even more satisfying.

The problem is that the protagonist is also a bit of a jerk (like nearly EVERYONE in the game is), which makes it rather annoying at times.

Yes, running to the police, running to the school authorities, becoming more fit, and carrying a weapon are very ineffective ways of dealing with violent bullying IRL.

Call the police? Whats the point when every witness testifies against you. Teachers? Same situation (though it seemed like Antionette was controlling them via another means as well). Learn how to fight? Even if she brought some sort of weapon (a gun would be highly unlikely, as this is Japan) she would've needed to pull off some serious bullshit plothax to beat all of Antionette's cronies, the girl herself, and her boyfriend.

Based on the story, unbelievable as it is already with all the students as well as teachers bending over backwards to avoid seeing what is going on, it's nota big leap to guess that nothing would come of going to the authorities. The school wanting to avoid bad publicity and covering it up and the police finding it hard to do anything without witnesses and concrete evidence as well as the teachers being unable or unwilling to get involved.
Bringing a weapon you don't know how to use for self protection is one of the dumbest things you can do. I can just see Aeka cutting herself on the knife she brought to scare off the bullies. And firearms aren't exactly easy to get ahold of in countries with, you know, gun control.

95% of the cast was completely unlike-able, the exceptions being the gay guy and Aya. The plot wasn't all that good, though it did have it's moments. The resolution was either extremely stupid or doesn't resolve much at all, depending on which you take.

That said, I didn't hate it. It was interesting enough to keep me reading, but it never wowed me or made me experience any emotion at all, for that matter. The sad moments never effected me, and the 'intense' moments made me go ''meh''. Everything is pretty much forgettable.

She could at least try.

Then again, I guess that they did try to cross that option off by making everybody unrealistically afraid of and subservient to Antoinette, even the teachers. If she could resolve the situation by going through the same channels that work to deal with the kind of thing IRL, then there wouldn't be any need for the protagonist to step in and scare them off.

But at least if she tried, it'd be easier to respect her situation as one that she really couldn't do anything about except suck it up and hope that they don't kill her.

>>2572363

Because only lethal weapons are available on the market, MIRITE? And everybody outside of the school is also afraid of Antoinette and would lie in court? (then again, given the excuse that they used to stop her from going to the authorities, I wouldn't be surprised) And circumstantial evidence (read: 1 vs. 5 or 6; not to mention that she'd have injuries that go above and beyond merely disabling her, suggesting that the other kids were out to seriously injure her, which I'd assume isn't acceptable in a Japanese court even when it started as self-defense) wouldn't suggest that Antoinette's group was lying?

And I never said that it wouldn't take time. People on 4chan seem to have a bad habit of putting words in your mouth.

You can increase your stamina enough to at least make running away a bit easier within a few months, though.

The way that she fought back was one of the dumbest ways that she could have taken, though.

She basically just thoughtlessly provoked them and then relied on her ability to fight back physically to deal with the consequences. The only thing that changed was her willingness to get a little psycho. She didn't look for any kind of equalizer. (such as at least planting it into their heads that they could go to jail or get expelled, which might scare a few of Antoinette's friends off)

>> No.2572513

>>2572464
She was a bit emotional at that point, you're right about that.

If she did try to scare off Nanjou's cronies though, she would need to fight Nanjou's words with her own. Who would be more scary to them, the police or Nanjou? It would be an uphill battle since it wouldn't chip away at Nanjou's grip around everyone (which was the root of the problem).

She needed help in her situation, so if she didn't have Kouhei to rely on it would've needed to be the police (or the Teachers, but I honestly wouldn't count on them if I were in her situation). But, she would need to gather poof of the harassment in order to get anywhere (since testimony would've been almost impossible to rely on).

As I said in my original post, the situation was obviously overblown to unrealistic levels in order to try to get you to feel sorry for her. But, really there weren't a whole lot of options for her in that situation.

>> No.2572589

>>2572513

She'd need to let them know that the threat was aimed personally at each and every one of her friends, that's for sure.

I don't think that getting the police on her side would be difficult. Its not like domestic abuse where things happen in private homes and out of the view of everyone else. If she went into the station several times covered in bruises that couldn't have been caused by anything other than a beating and probably weren't self-mutilation, then it'd make her case all that much more believable in court. She could call out to nearby bystanders to testify for her, as well. (most people are pussies, especially in Japan which has a culture of keeping their heads down and staying out of trouble, but there's always the chance of a good Samaritan; they could say that she gave him favors or something, but it wouldn't fit her profile, and coupled with the aforementioned evidence of 6 vs. 1 and the extent of the injuries...) Or if they attacked her near some stores or in a residential area or pretty much anyplace with people going about their business nearby... well, you should know how that works just from watching Cops.

>> No.2572605

That's true, I think it probably wouldn't have been entirely hopeless if she tried to go to the police. I wonder though if the police would investigate her parents at all if she came to them with bruises? She may have felt this was a possibility and avoided it so that her parents wouldn't have gotten into any legal troubles.

Its really hard to tell what would've happened in this VN since everything was played out so that Nanjou seemed like some sort of brutal dictator over the school.

They wouldn't just walk into the classroom and say "raise your hand if Aeka is telling the truth".
