Salete's a hard sell, the game can't quite make up its mind whether it wants to be a mystery or a gore porn nukige. That's the thing, Salete DOESN'T revolve just around the porn. There's absolutely a plot to it, and a fairly enjoyable one at that, although again it's not a masterpiece. Well first off the timing. Evenicle was the first high quality gameplay eroge on steam to be published completely uncensored without any external patches needed that wasn't some shitty puzzle game clone. It was also riding the hype of Senran Kagura which was very popular at the time since the artist that did that also did Evenicle. Then you had an internet famous person make a youtube video on it a bit after release which literally doubled the sales.

I don't think you're correct about that given what I know about them. I can't prove it, though, so I'm not going to argue the point.

Well, here's what gets unlocked and their relation to the original story.
In the original game there's an alternate Refrain ending for Rin (there should be a new choice if you replay Refrain) and Kurugaya's true ending, which you can get from replaying her route. For the EX routes (I'm going to put this in spoilers, but I'm not going to spoil the routes themselves; I'm just doing it for people who haven't read LB at all):
Saya -- this takes place basically during the common route at some point (prior to Refrain). If you don't know what this one is about I don't want to say anymore than that, because it has a more substantial story than the other ones, but it has a shooting minigame and basically a dungeon crawler component. Saya's a really good tsundere heroine and it's worth reading.
Sasami -- this takes place after Refrain and has some more information on how the illusionary world works. This is a fairly standard nakige route.
Kanata -- this takes place partially during common (in the illusionary world) and partially after Refrain in the real world. If you were paying attention you probably know Haruka and Kanata's relationship didn't really get resolved completely because Haruka's route was in the dream world, and Kanata's abusive family situation never got fixed at all, so all of that is resolved in this route.

Tbh, I read some anyway because I wanted to read more and didn't want to pick up a new VN. I'm about ready to take a break and play some vidya instead, Bloodborne is calling me. I did Kurugaya's True ending, which was okay. Also just finished Sasami, which was pretty good. Just can't decide if I should go with Saya or Kanata next. I kinda dislike Kanata, so I'm tempted to do her route and then Saya as a palette cleanser. Oh, also took care of Kud's different post-Refrain routes, Muscle Revolution is the best ending.

As for Rin, there was a new choice, but it didn't change much as I recall. Just a little extra dialogue before saving everyone. Otherwise it was the same as the first time through. It was the first on I re-read after Refrain.

Yep, just ran through both Yes and No. I totally missed it, it was a bit too subtle for someone about to sleep I guess. In Yes, it's very clear that Riki and Rin are dating, in No they don't seem to be. Instead they enjoy their school lives and you get a bit of extra information on how badly each character was injured. Oh, you also get a scene with "Yes" when Masato returns.

I've got a depressingly great memory for how stories go, at least as far as the broad strokes go. Main reason why I don't re-read much. But it also means that sometimes I miss small differences like this. Which is also part of the reason I like VN's, those small differences.

Is there really an issue to hire a N2 who can translate if you have a N1 that can oversee him and fix mistakes as they occur? I would not gatekeep people from trying their hand at translation when they are inexperienced(because everyone is at the beginning). Just give them a translation mentor that TLC's them. There is also the problem that there is not really new talent being nurtured. the Jops who would be able to teach people in the community the ropes of translation are obviously against more works getting translated, so they won't help.

It's a vicious cycle. Once you become good enough to read and enjoy japanese works suddenly an elitism switch kicks in and you want to keep others from enjoying that medium, or when you let them you only want them to consume it in the original Japanese...

In a way it would be interesting if you could maybe conjure up some jops who know how to translate who then make a (paid) course or something how to make a fan-translation... from Hacking the engines, over extracting the text until tips and tricks for the translation process and obstacles itself.

Talent can only nurture itself when it given time and care, but some compiled guide about the mechanics how to make a fan-translation happen would be beneficial for the future of the craft.
