Well, the entire game and storyline is based around a shonen fighting tournament called "The Holy Grail War". Basically, the last man left standing in the tourney is the winner, and he gets his wish granted as the prize for winning. If that isn't generic and cliche, then I don't know what is.

Ignore trolls and elitist "my favourite obscure VN is better than your favourite mainstream VN" fags.

F/SN is fucking awesome. I have played many VNs (well the ones translated) and I can honestly say this is my favourite. It is true that there is a lot of dialogue and talk you need to get through, and the early days are uneventful and slow, but thats all to add to the sense of pace it picks up in the second half of its individual routes.

Basically, if you like reading, have an above average patience and like the kind of demographic that this VN is in (supernatural, action, fantasy, romance etc) then you will definately like it.

>> No.2541697

>>2541556

No, maybe I was unclear, but people like to jump on the bandwagon. Of course there are many cases where just because something is popular, it doesnt equate to them being good.

I was making the point that, on /jp/, F/SN has become what One Piece and Haruhi are on /a/. Sure neither are the best show, but they are both awesome in their own rights but, maybe due to overposting, ir from constant heckling by a vocal minority, they have reached a state where every thread related to them is full of arguments about how shit they are. There are arguably worse shows than OP and Haruhi, like K-ON and Bleach for example, but they dont receive anywhere near as much hate and abuse, as they are not as popular. This is also the case with F/SN as there are definately VNs worse than it.

Damn, im not sure if i am putting my point across clearly enough...ok how about this. F/SN is a VN which has gained huge popularity over here and in Japan. Many people will have played it if they are familliar with VNs. As its popularity grew, the people who have played and didnt like it got annoyed with it constantly around and decided to take the few weak points it has and expose them to full view and exaggerate them. People who have never played it then come along and decide from what they have heard from trolls that they will definately not like it, go on wikipedia to get a few facts, then regurally troll it. Every board that is centered around an actual theme has cases like this, the trollbait of the board, something that is guranteed to create drama and butthurt regardless if the object in question is good or not. F/SN has become /jp/s touchy subject.

Thats all there is too it (i think...)

Do it. Heaven's feel is the longest and better thought of all routes.
The action is intense -like Fate- and Shirou has a couple of awesome moments -like UBW- One of those include him fighting against the most powerful servant in the Nasu universe and winning. The story is well thought, with a few twists here and there. Hell, they even make Kotomine a interesting character, mostly because he does something else than look evil and die.
There's more Ilya than on any other route and Shirou actually acts like anyone would do in front of a beautiful child that calls you nii-san. Rin has everything: tender moments, cold and calculating actions and GAR battles. Even Rider gets to show what she really is made of. Boobs, guts and glasses, in case you're wondering.

There are some perks though, instead of I'M THE BONE OF MY BREAKFAST, you get LOL LIVING WITH SAKURA IS FUCKING BORING although that counts as another good thing if you actually like Sakura. One of the best characters, Lancer, dies too quickly. And Gilgamesh's death is a poor-thought deus ex machina to get him out of the way.

Endings? The Good end is a beautiful finale for the series, even when you end up with the worst character. The normal end is just a long and painful tearjerker. I'm not even gonna start talking about Mind of Steel because anything about that is vox populi by now.

For all those things, I believe that HF is the best route on Fate.

Anyway, Yes, there is slice of life; less than on other routes, but still a fuckton of it. It seems that Shirou waked up one day and thought: HEY LET'S STAY IN THE HOUSE WITH SAKURA ALL DAY LONG FOR A WEEK. IT'S NOT LIKE HER STATE IS GETTING WORSE OF ANYTHING.

Nothing said there is vital to know, so you can skip it all. It starts to get shorter towards then end, mostly because Shirou starts to lose his sense of time. He kinda makes a Fast Forward of all the daytime crap and regains reason at night. Much appreciated, Nasu.

But what irks me about the cooking scenes isn't so much that they're overly long or pedantic, it's that they could be avoided entirely. Any normal author would just say "We ate a hearty meal and then Saber regaled us with tales of woe from her past" but nasu either has a fetish for cooking scenes or makes the common literary mistake of padding out useless scenes to increase the length of the work. And I don't like skipping unread parts of a vn because I feel like I'm doing the characters a disservice.

but it really allows you to get into the head of Shirou, and shows how something as cooking a meal reveals how much consideration he puts into making something to give pleasure to those he cares about. food has power, it can inspire, astonish, shock, excite, delight and impress. It has the power to satisfy himself and others.
To be a cook, a good cook, requires an almost masochistic and/or irrational love of cooking. Given Shirou's survivor's guilt and extreme selflessness and dedication, he could be a great culinarian.
