Fairy is bad because:
1. Your maximum melee crit damage doesnt scale at all because your weapon can only weigh 1.0 at most.
2. Your maximum spellpower is limited significantly because you cannot use medium weight's special ability, Magic Equip
3. Considerably more expensive to gear, and have to make gear sacrifices early on.
4. DV is heavily outdone by PV in act 2, limiting the usefulness of your DV bonus (emergency evade will not save you from guaranteed hit special actions, unlike sheer armor)
5. AP gain issues in early-midgame
6. Cannot 2H, limiting you to dual wield which is super gear reliant and still second fiddle to 2H.
7. Low starting life is still a bother even if you can fix it
8. 1.0 weight equipment limitation lessens damage (EVEN FOR MA) , cannot be overcome by fusion and gearing throughout the entire game unlike the innate resists, which are easy to patch up.
9. Fairy's resistances are not permanent and can be lost via dreams.

Fairy's a lot better balanced in OOMsest at least, since nearly all the flat stat increase feats are replaced with scaling (with level) increase feats.

Between that and the fact speed doesn't effectively grow on trees like in E+, the fairy is quite potent.

Eulderna has magic resistance as a racial innate. Add the magic resist mutations and magic resist from corpses and they can get to Superb magic resistance without any gear at all. Considering that half of magic resist contributes towards the damage reduction of other elements, it definitely goes a long way towards not getting shredded by magical attacks and elemental special actions.

Also, Attribution Shield doesn't give magic resistance, but does give resistance to all other elements, so it's not like Eulderna PCs can't have boss resists whenever they need it. Meanwhile, they also have none of the downsides of Fairies.

The feat based resists are quite permanent, and fairies get those too. However, you can get up to 2000 res to everything (but magic) from attribution shield, even ignoring using artifact fusion. Even early on res potions are pretty effective.

Heavy armor effectively gets crit immunity, since enemy crit damage trends down to no bonus % as your weight vs theirs goes up. EE is still better at removing crits though, and crits do max dice in addition to the +% damage.

DV and PV reduce crush damage. Many spacts deal crush damage, but many don't. PV is still more useful on average, but dv isn't worthless. Either way, you don't get much of your endgame pv from armor weight, unless you have thousands of stones worth. And even then, it'll be less than a quarter of your total, maybe 400 extra pv if you don't use shields.

Waaaaaay back in the ancient lost mists of time, vanilla scaled taxes with level. This was hated by all, and all recommended keeping your level low. There was also some minor quest/enemy scaling off of level for a bit.

Nowadays it has seen a small amount of use in super mutant runs, since you can buy limbs from gavela before you grow them for more limbs.

Also make use of large picnic baskets. They're like potential potions that you make with food and all of your pets with you get to benefit too whenever you Use (not Eat) them.

You'll need a pot of fusion to make them in the first place, the Puppy Cave can give you one and vendors rarely sell one. You'll also need a regular source of all seven ingredients; empty baskets for the large baskets (search wilderness squares), fruit (steal fruit trees and plop them down in a building you own), vegetables (healthy leaves and edible wild plants will do, again search wilderness for those), eggs (get a ranch and put a rabbit or something else that'll breed fast as the breeder, the livestock will lay eggs and milk at regular intervals), fish (vendors tend to sell them, though Fishing is of course better for that, stock up on bait and try to get the Super Lure ASAP), bread (food vendors), and corpses (kill lots of critters. Wilderness will provide). As you can see, you shouldn't neglect your wilderness plundering.

Also the large baskets are reusable as they'll drop when you eat from them, and make sure to cook the ingredients before putting them in baskets as it'll raise its enhancement and therefore the amount of potentials it increases when consumed.

In plus, invest in magic vendors up to around rank 100.
They'll have potential pots stocked relatively often.

In oomsest, convert to cumiromi, prepare a huge stack of unblessed uncursed non-perishable food ( puff puff bread from the pot for testing is the best ), dump it on the altar of cumiromi, and 'p'ray.
The stack of food will be blessed by cumiromi, each time you eat from it, you regain 1% of all 8 main stats.
Oomsest gives a bonus to food if at least hungry when eating, and it apply to the potential boost, so 3% per eating really.


Any other method is a meme one done for flavor and roleplaying.

The best way to farm potential pots is to fill up your house with magic vendors.
Once you can hire one, hire it, rename it, and you will be able to hire a new one right away.

You've been gone a while, huh? There's a variant called Custom-G that goes on top of Custom (on top of Plus) that removes the watersports stuff and some other Ano nonsense. Also improves the translation a good bit.
There's a thread for it on the wiki forum. You'll need to get the downloads from there, because BloodyShade went AWOL ages ago and his repository is gone. Custom development stagnated after that too.

I've also found two blessed potential potions since my last post and they worked really well, a single one rose all my potentials to Superb.
They're still somewhat rare and expensive to me so I've been also using the picnic basket and it's quite effective too in maintaining my (and my pets) potentials up.

I only have MA at 4k, but I'm at 2d505 + 1844, some of that +1844 is from strength and violence, but most should be MA. I've seen pics of jp players MA pets with absurd values, though, and I have a bubble with game breaking attack using MA from it's strength stat.

MA is only not in first place because the violence feat exists to boost +damage of player weapons and +9999 weapons give tens of thousands of multiplier. MA hits plenty strong enough.

Seems like the dice's rise is linear, so 9999 should give around a 2d1000.

Paired with the claw ether disease for cut damage, and the warmage spacts for all other damages, it'll be cozy.

How hard is it to beat Utima on Elona+?

You get 10-25 per month depending on your faith skill. It's not bad even when just running quest boards. But, it really shines if you are skipping time. 25 plat (and whatever you get from the museum) every few minutes while skipping time is pretty good.

Shut them down with status effects at range. Chaos Breath, Group Hypnosis, Nerve Arrow, thrown potions, even Darkness Bolt can all work if you tag them with any status that stops them from doing anything meaningful.

Alternatively, try to fight them one on one. Dimension Fishing (gained at 30 fishing skill) can work if the RNG likes you, but a safer bet is to use Dancing Wire (requires the String Assassin feat) to pull one away from its pack and then pulp it and repeat until all of them are destroyed.

If you're fighting mobs dangerous enough to give you trouble don't bite off more than you can chew. Get out of Line of Sight, make use of chokepoints, and if there's a boss present on the current level try to sweep as many mobs as you can before engaging the boss.

Also don't overlook teleportation as a means of pulling your ass out of the fire. Rods of teleportation in particular are immensely valuable as they don't care about MP, silence, or spell failure and they can be used on yourself or other people and creatures, including the boss. Yes, bosses can be teleported away if you need to buy some time in order to deal with its lackeys or heal up.

It maintains X is an enchantment that prevents monsters from lowering your attributes temporarily by cursing you. Ghosts, Nymphs, etc. do this when they touch you with their rotten hand. You can tell whether your attributes are boosted, damaged or normal by looking at the colour of the stat at the bottom.

Depends what version you play. OOMsest or E+C. OOMsest tends to favor casters a bit more since you can devour enemies to absorb their spellstock, making spellstock a non-issue. Some racial bonuses also scale up with level (like fairy's pv/dv), so certain races are a lot better in that than in other Elona variants.

For E+, not much has changed. Range weapons are still mediocre, and dual-wielding isn't great in the late game. 2H melee or spellcasters of some sort are the dominant meta if I recall.

In the new e+ ranged weapons are fairly OP now. You can one-shot your way through most of act one buy just being a thief (for the crits) and picking up a sniper at cyber dome.

Ano also made 1 big change, ranged modifiers now all start at 100% and get their ranged modifiers as a bonus, rather than a penalty. So laser guns do 200% damage now. And for whatever reason, this has also caused enhance throw rock enchantment + stone to do tons more damage too. Might be adding 100% twice? Who knows.

I have a Nightmare equipped as my throwing weapon and despite my minimum effort in improving my throwing damage, it has been dealing so much damage I have to restrain myself to not just spam it and end up not leveling up my main skills.

My Thief has an adamantium ballista +15 with a crystal bolt +15 and it just massacres things. Ranged weapons make getting those sneak attack crits trivial and rapid ammo + time stop ammo minces bosses. Though I am looking for a bolt with burst and time stop on it instead for even more boss smearing.

If you are fine with the long grind, feats/spacts then life, then skill points. Since you can raise speed through other means.

It allows you to do fucking everything and its massively stupid and unfair at time, but because the punishment for death is so fucking small (you may loose half a skill point and some equipment at most, and that is not even possible during hunting quests) you are encouraged to try out everything without any fear and worry
I have such a love-hate relationship with dungeon crawlers, i really fucking hate how the common theme is to delete absolutely everything of your character if you die once to something you have never encountered before. In Elona you don't need to worry about getting a bad mutation, about your pet dying, about loosing an arm or anything because you can fix everything and thus you can extremely fucking nuts
"do I want to read this dangerous book? Do I want to drink this weird potion? Do I want to equip this shit that might be cursed?"
In SSDC the answer is "NO, ARE YOU CRAZY?" in Elona is "do it you fucking PUSSY". You learn at your pace and by trial and error

Well, it used to be the eye skills, but mp emission now lets you cheese bosses with mp overcast damage.

Magic devices and alchemy suck, but you can clear the game with them just fine. I don't know if there's really anything that's completely useless. Even dual-wield fairy can beat the game, and they have everything set against them.

I'm trying to decide which weapon to give my Black Angel:
Melee: Rankis vs Unicorn Drill. The former has chaos damage that helps keep her alive but the latter seems to deal more damage. Alternatively, I also have a Moonlight and Storm Bringer swords which seems good but her sword skill is rather low.
Ranged: Wind Bow or Railgun. Skill level is almost the same (~60 vs ~40).
According to the wiki, Wind Bow only has 1% chance of activating the signature invoke enchantments, while Railgun has 12% and constant extra nerve damage. So I'm considering the latter.

No, no it isn't. Both Magic Device and Alchemy are much easier to get to high levels compared to spells, and equipment can get that skill even higher.

Nope. First time I beat zeome was by causing him to magic reaction himself to death with cure of jua. Since I couldn't out-damage his heals.

IIRC they sort of ignore stamina though. But it does go down, and you can use the empathy feats to defeat -100 stamina enemies instantly.
