Not really.

Other OEL VNs read better than KS. Also, KS doesn't even compare to the modern Japanese doujin VNs (that aren't running on NScripter).

KS is a fine attempt our 4chan friends, but it's still mediocre in the end. Perhaps they should have strived to create something original instead of trying to poorly emulate certain English translated VNs.

Just telling it how it is. I know only a small amount of people here follow the niche indie VNs (either Japanese or Western) so thus someone (myself) is going to have to make an informed comparison.

You have to admit that "ignorance is bliss" for most of the "fans" of KS though. Actually, I'm not even sure if the KS dev team follows this stuff. That isn't good either.

I've seen 1,000 Anime and played every game out there, so I'm trying to move on to other stuff now (like figures and VNs).

I'm no Fig/VN_Expert yet though. Maybe in a few years. Knowing Japanese is helping though.

We have an official /jp/ Eroge_Expert and Figure_Expert anyways. Polite sage.

I play a lot of doujin VN. I haven't played many of the western ones since I've never felt like bothering because I had preconceptions that they were all terrible so I don't know how it compares to those but I quite enjoyed the demo.

>> No.2526122

I should probably know this but KS is?

>> No.2526124

After going through it a bit more, one thing that is bothering me (apart from some sentences constructed in a weird way, especially missing commas) is the fact that Hisao spends 75% of his time going "WAH EVERYONE IS SO DIFFERENT, I CAN'T FIT IN" and "WHY IS MY HEART SO CRIPPLE LIKE IN APPEARANCE."

I mean, we get it, it was a sudden change in his life. But did they really need to make the main character repeat the same shit over and over, throughout several days? It's like someone made a sheet with the characters and their traits and then handed it over to the writers, who then proceeded to just write the same shit over and over based on the general traits they were given and never deviate from it.

So yeah, my complaint is that Hisao is a completely one dimensional character whose only thoughts consists of "She's a cripple. How can she stand being so crippled? It's amazing how well she adjusts to the fact that she's a cripple. Fuck, am I a bigot for noticing she's a cripple?" and "MY HEART IS BROKEN, I want my old life back! I don't fit in, I'm (mostly) fine! Why is everyone so crazy? WHY MUST I TAKE SO MANY PILLS. Also, fuck exercising."

A lot LESS writers, too.
Unless your lead writer and director is Tomo Kataoka (and even then, sometimes) too many writers (in other words, more than one or MAYBE two) will spoil a story with inconsistency.

Just find one writer who can write well and can also write like a MANIAC (some English equivalent to Kikakuya or Izumi would be fantastic; the whole game would be finished in a month) and you'd be set.

And then you have what happened with KS. The different path writers were too afraid of making Hisao's personality look inconsistent, so they just went with what I described here. >>2526124

Anyone can write a bunch in a month, but to make it really good in that time I feel is difficult unless you had copyeditors on the side editing the first parts while the latter parts are being written, and even then you'd have to have a large amount of skill to put out something of any real quality in a months time; trust me, I've tried with NaNoWriMo twice.

also sprach zarathustra wasn't _that_ long. Izumi's written more than that in a week (read his blog sometime)

By the way, this 'Izumi' is Black Cyc's main writer (for MinDead Blood, Extravaganza etc.)

so, the risk scene, the rin wall scene, the meeting lilly-tea scene, any scene with kenji, you didn't notice those at all? I've only played the first 3 days or so yet, but so far there have been several big scenes that had pretty much nothing to do with disability stuff and heavily focused on the girls' characters.

I can't argue that there are a shitload of bits of him thinking about or talking about his trouble getting used to the school, but it's the first week, and it's not like it's ONLY that. I'm still hopeful that'll fade away.

Most highly-regarded Japanese-language VNs are written by one person, and they don't take that long to create. Again, W.L.O was written by one person, it reads better than the KS demo does and it's got 6.5mb of TEXT.

Basically a couple screenshots got posted and people (myself included) jumped onto the bad grammar (or perhaps just awkward wording) of them. Most of it is okay, it's just a few moments where you have to double-take and wonder if they really did have anyone editing.
