Look at how excited Shizune is to be arguing with Lilly. She basically walks up and gives her a verbal beatdown by proxy. You can see Lilly's indignation, but what does Shizune have? A fucking troll grin.

They were playing chess when Hanako, out of sheer rage for being checkmated, throws her king against something that causes fires. And it caused a fire. They both try to escape, but for some reason only one person can leave the house. Because plot. They fight for a bit, and Hanako wins, so the boyfriend, realizing what a jackass he was, cries and tells her that he hopes there's someone else out there who will kick her ass in chess. While she's listening, something hot hits her in the left side, and she bolts.

It doesn't prevent anything, no, but quite often 3 or more pieces are part of an attack plan.

The problem isn't memorizing 3 pieces, it's memorizing 16 of them in order to find out which 3 are the ones, and then memorizing 16 of yours so you can figure out which ones to counter with.

In fact, by memorizing the pieces, I doubt you'd even need to know the squares, simply because at the level required to do that, you're pretty much a chess master anyway.

Having actually played chess on a slightly more professional level. Its perfectly possible to play chess against blind or heavily visibly impaired people.

Small chessboards exist for this purpose, all pieces are very clearly cut so they can be identified by touch quite easy, black and white sections are at different elevation levels and the pieces all have small pins at the bottom that lock into the board.

When playing the "normal" player uses the normal board. And mirrors his moves on the smaller board and mirrors the moves back to the normal board. There are a number of reasons for this chiefly though the fact that the assist board is rather small and the impaired opponent is constantly touching something that would be rather disctracting, it also makes it easier for observers to watch the game.

Bastard beat me too, twice.

Of course none of this is required to play for a blind person, patience assistance from the opponent and well defined chess piece shapes go a long way.

The deathly horrors of the 14th century—such as recurring famines; the Hundred Years' War in France; and, most of all, the Black Death—were culturally digested throughout Europe. The omnipresent possibility of sudden and painful death increased the religious desire for penitence, but it also evoked a hysterical desire for amusement while still possible; a last dance as cold comfort. The danse macabre combines both desires: similar to the popular mediaeval mystery plays, the dance-with-death allegory was originally a didactic play to remind people of the inevitability of death and to advise them strongly to be prepared all times for death (see memento mori and Ars moriendi).

The earliest examples of such plays, which consisted of short dialogues between Death and each of its victims, can be found in the direct aftermath of the Black Death in Germany (where it was known as the Totentanz, and in Spain as la Danza de la Muerte). The French term danse macabre most likely derives from Latin Chorea Machabæorum, literally "dance of the Maccabees." 2 Maccabees, a deuterocanonical book of the Bible in which the grim martyrdom of a mother and her seven sons is described, was a well-known mediaeval subject. It is possible that the Maccabean Martyrs were commemorated in some early French plays or that people just associated the book’s vivid descriptions of the martyrdom with the interaction between Death and its prey. Both the play and the evolving paintings were ostensive penitential sermons that even illiterate people (who were the overwhelming majority) could understand.

A friend of mine plays multiple opponents at a time in timed matches, 'war' (chess where the players only see their own pieces), and yes, he plays back to the board too. I've seen him do all of this, and win consistently against non-casual players.

He's nowhere NEAR grandmaster level.

Not saying it's easy, but neither it is at the level you suggest it to be.

I always likened the people who post just to declare their sage to someone flying around in a giant Rainbow colored Zeppelin with a loud speaker.

Sure, people can see you, and maybe if you fly low enough to the ground for long enough someone might hear you.

But in the end they're only pointing up at you so they can wonder why a gay man is flying his zeppelin around town.
