I've played some english language VNs, but the only one I'd really recommend at all (apart from this) is Gakuen Redux. Ignore the uninspired name; it's a pretty reasonable piece, of a respectable length and has a fairly unique story and writing style; one not covered by any Japanese VNs to my knowledge. (for example, the game contains no dialogue)
