I'm Brazilian, and i love languages. In fact, i want to make a living out of translating stuff

I already speak portuguese, english, spanish and french and i want to start learning some other and i think Japanese is fascinating, though it seems hard

So, just asking, is it really really hard? Any tips on how to start learning it online?

Well, Spanish and French are almost trivial for Portuguese speakers. And everyone on the Internet has to learn English sooner or later.

Japanese has nothing to do with Romance languages or English, so expect a challenge. Considering you're Brazilian and don't sound dumb, at least you won't sound too much like a retard when speaking Japanese, unlike English speakers.

Sup OP, fellow Brazilian here.

It's been a little bit more then a year since I started learning Japanese, and yeah it is way harder than learning English. You'll start by learning the kanas, Higarana and Katakana. It's not that big of a deal, really. Basic vocab is also a breeze and the grammar is not too difficult.

The problem starts when you start learning the Kanjis. They can really mess your head. There is a logic behind them, yes, but not always. There is also a specific order on how you write the lines, you'll learn that soon enough. There is a fuckton of them to learn if you want to reach proficiency, about 2000 or so if I recall correctly. I must know about 200-300 only (yeah I'm taking it slow).

I have Japanese classes but I don't think is the best way to go, you might want to spend some time outside the country to learn the language on where it is spoken, I did it for English and it worked wonders.

By the way, from what region are you from? Curitiba here.

Buy or download the book "Remebering the Kanji" and download an SRS program. An SRS program is pretty much an electronic flash card program but the way it organizes the deck is a little more retention efficient than just randomly drawing card.

In before some butthurt Japanese major who wasted years of his life learning Kanji comes in. Heisig doesn't teach readings, we know.

Hey OP, if you want to know what it's like to learn Japanese follow these easy steps.

1. Turn on the lights in your room. You want to be able see your desk clearly.
2. Sit next to your desk. Sit comfortably, you will be there for a while. Do a few stretches. Also bring some snacks and soda.
3. Load the programs on your computer that you might need at some point of your study session, you don't want to get interrupted by having to find them.
3a. You might want to turn on some music so you don't get bored.
4. Get a few sheets of blank paper.
5. Get two pens. Yes, two. Now pick up one of them with your left hand and the other one with your right hand.
6. Repeatedly stab your testicles with the two pens for 2-3 hours.
7. Repeat these steps every day for 2-5 years.

First of all, if you're not using a SRS you should be. This will save you more time than anything else. Anki is the best SRS there is.

Japanese is an easy language with a difficult writing system. I recommend studying Heisig or Kanjidicks before anything else, to make the kanji much easier.

Next study Tae Kim's guide, and All About Particles. After that start reading manga and light novels. Switch to using native Japanese dictionaries/grammar guides as soon as possible.

Yeah.
My first trouble with writing a st
range way was タ, which I usually made too awkward, and put the inside stroke on the outside stroke, if you get what I mean? I usually connected the outside and inside stroked with the stroke I'm talking about.

Confused me for an hour or so, but I finally got the hang of it.

Practice an hour a day, it's what I did, and I usually enjoyed it.

Anime does NOT help. The Seiyu (Voice Actors) generally don't speak like a Japanese person would, lol. (Found out when I went to Kyoto last Summer)
