The Touhou fanime was an overrated piece of trash. The same people who liked it clearly like Lucky Star as well. Those people have no taste. This "anime" was inconsistently written, had eye-grating animation and non-canon personalities. I hate every bit of it with all my being. It's the fandom that matters in Touhou, which is why it's so successful. The fandom is what creates the multitudes of doujins, the anime, the music, the fan art, and so on.

I fail to see how coming out with something of good quality is "abusing" ZUN's works. Even profiting off of it is a good thing, it, like any market, brings more people in to make quality works, which is good for everyone. From the beginning, I've respected the opinion of others that they may not independently like some kind of touhou fanwork, like the anime. As much as you'd like to sidestep it though, you've been bringing ZUN's opinion of the anime forwards as if it's some kind of end-all-be-all of what fans can and cannot do.

Even if ZUN does not like the fan anime, that does not mean that people ought not to make them if that's their passion.
