Random thought, but has anyone had any problems with moths and fumos? I've read they're most prevalent with wool-containing fabric as opposed to man-made fibers, but I'd rather be safe than sorry with respect to storage.

Whilst it's obviously anecdotal, over the years I've bought eight legit fumos from Amazon JP.
If you use Buyee, which was the only option before they opened up international shipping, only the plan fee applies (no buy fee or transfer fee like there is for YAJ) and if you buy multiple items in the same cart, you only pay the plan fee once.

There is no real limit on the number of Fumos Gift can produce. If they wanted huge money, all they would have to do is open up pre-orders for several types of Fumo with no limit other than a time window. They would sell an insane amount. Then, they could place the factory order after they know how many pre-orders there were. Yes, the pre-order time would increase due to having to place the factory order *after* pre-orders, but the number they would sell would be astronomical. On top of that, if they raised the price to 50,000 yen, they would still sell like crazy.

By artificially limiting the number of Fumos available and keeping the prices relatively low, they are creating a massive market for scalpers to profit instead of themselves.

These limitations make it special, so when one guy has 6 Rans, that means a lot, instead of just meaning that you have 300$

I agree with you, but it probably makes sense for them to do things the way they do. There's a psychology element at work here. If fumos are available that easily, people don't make snap decisions to buy them as often. A bunch of people bought 3+ this rerelease, myself included. On my part, that was at least partly influenced by the perceived scarcity. Pretty much the same thing was done with Beanie Babies, so people wouldn't lose interest too fast. The people still buying touhou merch at this point are probably all diehard autists, though.

I saw that there was a specialty Lindt store outlet around me and I decided to pick up a whole bunch of the more outlandish flavours. I figured my fumos would appreciate sharing some, so I let them each pick one out. My personal favourites were the Strawberries and Cream that Kasen is holding, the Neapolitan, and the Stracciatella that Suwako had (though I've had the Stracciatella multiple times before). Think I remember the Mango that Yukari had being surprisingly good too, though it's actually been quite a while since I picked up those chocolates, so my memory's a little fuzzy.

After five years of careful deliberation, I finally got my first fumo today! Shoutout to the anon a few threads back who found a reasonable Suwako for me on From Japan. I've never used a proxy shipper before so I was completely lost.

It might have to do with topheaviness. The head alone is so much of the fumo's body that it destabilizes it a little, especially with Suwako where you have to take Pyonta into consideration.

Fumos with a heavier body on the other hand (like I'd assume Flan and Remi because of their wings, etc) I'd imagine are easier to stabilize.

The same could be said about something like Lego minifigures, and it'd be just as wrong. The issue is more that the Pop aesthetic is ugly, and you can't really do anything with them- they just stand there. Lego minifigs, Fumos, Nendoroids, Beanie Babies, TRPG models, Tsum-tsums and more all share a few key characteristics that make them iconic, popular collector's items, although the niche varies. Even though Pops are popular, they're widely hated because they're a significant downgrade over nearly everything else, with their only saving grace being pure quantity, which does make a collection of them somewhat nicer thanks to similar designs. But you can pose and custom build Lego minifigs to set your own scenes, tsum-tsums stack up, and fantasy models can be painted to show off your cool adventurer or powerful grimdark army in a more unique way. Fumos are incredibly photogenic and cute, looking good in nearly any place you put them. Pops, on the other hand, can only really be displayed in one way where they only look good alongside tons of other Pops, and even then their uncanny appearance doesn't improve that much. If you've gotta hate on Fumos, there's plenty of ways to do it without going for this or the low-hanging fruit of "muh frilly dolls".

I've been planning on making a Junko for a little while now. I'm mostly worried about not messing up the hair too badly, because I'm not sure how best to go taking apart a fumo or how best to reattach the hair. I'll also have to colour the eyes somehow as well.

For the eyes just use fabric paint, a small brush, and slowly apply it, being careful as you go! More coats, mean a more pronounced color!
As for the hair, think of it like giving the fumo a haircut, if its sanae v1, then it should be very weird removing the hair, as there is a lot of glue used in a v1s construction, for 1.5 sanae theres still glue for the side hair pieces but still. you should be able to remove the hair by cutting it down to the scalp, as for the scalp itself, if its 1.5 sanae you can choose to leave it be or cover it up, as for v1 sanae obviously since its flesh colored you neednt worry.
when cutting the hair, try and cut it in a way that preserves the hair, that way you can potentially use it as a pattern for your junko!

One of, or perhaps the very first custom handcraft touhou plush I ever bought from yahoo auction japan many, many years ago. That's why I keep her in the very center.

These are all the ones I bought back then, when multiple different people would sell them. This was before fumo threads existed, maybe even before /jp/ existed. This was before proxy bids were automated, so I was at the behest of manual bidding which was horrendously delayed and often sabotaged my efforts at winning. I took it upon myself to get as many as I could, what I thought was rescuing them so they could all live together, goose-stepping me into purchasing as many as I could. Even so I regret not being able to save them all.

Nowadays I'm not under any duress to buy any new ones, they've become a relic of an age that passed me by.

Conversely, I went out to my apartment's dumpster a week ago and saw a big talking teddy bear, still in pretty good shape, just thrown in there. That was once a kid's best friend and could have been another kid's best friend if they just took it to goodwill, but they threw it away instead because the dumpster saved them 5 minutes of driving, presumably so they could quickly get back to watching TV.
