Why are NEETs so inclined to suicide?

>> No.2488751

where your proof that NEETs are more likely to commit suicide than non-NEETs?

i wouldn't argue against that. but theres a lot of proof that NEETs are NEETs because they choose to be. especially in japan, a lot of 20somethings are disillusioned with a society so hellbent on forcing people into full-time salary-man style work as soon as youre done with uni. the social stigma attached to someone who decides to take a year out of university or college or even someone who cant find a job is staggering. of the NEETs i met in japan, many of them tend to be more outspoken and generally more critical of the nature of japanese society.

haha, that's sad in some many ways.
Surely there's a better way to protest society and bring forth the revolution than staying locked in your room all the time.

Ok, scratch that, I'm fusing NEET with hikki again. So, these NEETs in what do they indulge in?

its not about protesting society or being a hippy (in the western sense of the word). its about choosing not to participate in a society that demands more and more from young people. for the hardocre NEETs (seperate from those who genuinely feel burnt out and decide to take 6 months or a year out) it starts with feelings of isolation and disillusionment from elementary school.

with the younger hikikomori, it also has to do with feelings of academic pressure through school and the social demands they feel.

I've worked a 9-5 job for nearly that (23 months) and I'm quite happy. I got a job in a field I enjoy (Software Engineering). I even spend my free time purusing the subject (although obviously not work related).

However, I've heard that the Japanese have unrealistic expectations from their salary workers, like unpaid overtime or never leaving before your boss. Such things are very unhealthy and at the least I can see justification for a backlash against it.

NEETs also have an inclination to develop schizophrenia and other similar illnesses. These also help them on their way to alcohol and drug abuse and potentially suicide

Suicide is a verb, but its use as such is rare for whatever reason. I like it though, and try to use it when I can.
