The Beat titles are popular enough, and I could see the milf titles gaining a decent sized audience in theory. I doubt Alicesoft could release all of their titles on Steam, but they could probably release on the MG or JAST stores as third party publishers if they really wanted to. I personally think that Alicesoft is only going to self publish titles that they can get on Steam and let other localization companies deal with what they can't though. If Steam is involved, they can be assured that their title won't be a flop so eating all of the cost themselves isn't an issue. However, with the much smaller stores, it's less risky to let the localization company eat up some of the cost even if the final profits may be less if the title manages to sell well regardless.

>> No.24873684

>>24873288
>they can be assured their title wont be a flop
Oh anon...Normally you'd be right because of the chinese market but the chinese market cannot access Evenicle 2, so you're basically banking entirely on western sales since there's no reason for the japs to buy a copy because it's censored, the chinese don't even see it on their clients, and at least 25% of the western audience wont buy it because they kept mosaics. I'd genuinely be surprised if it reached even 25% of the sales of Evenicle 1 based on current handling of the title.

>> No.24874172

>>24873684
China (and various other countries) were region locked from Evenicle 1 while Eve 2 doesn't seem to be region locked at all. While a drop because of the mosaic is possible, I doubt it will be as dramatic as you claim. Most people genuinely don't care about mosaic, at least if Yuzusoft title sales on Steam are any indication.

he saw some random dude on Twitter -- who has an Amagami obsession, but isn't involved in any translation of it -- make a joke about how he was going to make Haruka gay in his Amagami localization. he then ran an article on it and passed it off as if this dude was actually working on an Amagami localization officially, with the intent to gayify the script.

anyone familiar with visual novels knows that Amagami will never be officially localized in any capacity, so it was promptly mocked here due to OAG's poor research on the subject matter. later, after the article had already been published and received much of its clicks, he make a partial addendum saying that he "may" not actually be involved in a localization for the title.

even though i am more or less politically aligned with OAG, being staunchly anti-censorship and so on, i think that site is absolute trash and does more harm to the cause than good. he constantly runs clickbait outrage articles like that with little to not research. trash website

that's under the supposition that their relationship has soured, which i honestly kind of doubt.

if anything i think Alicesoft is going ahead on Evenicle 2 like this because they want to capitalize on the first game's popularity before it fades in the minds of its audience on Steam. but as most of us have surmised here, the majority of Alicesoft's other titles wouldn't have very good odds of getting on Steam at all. financially speaking, it honestly makes more sense to keep working with MG since it's already the established area to buy Alicesoft titles. would they really have all their Rance games on MG's store except for one? that would just be weird.

>> No.24874475

>>24874172
Evenicle 2 is region locked in China because Adult Only tagged games and Steam Community Hub aren't available in the current steam chinese client.
>Also most people don't care about mosaics
Mangagamer themselves have confirmed that titles without mosaics sell at least 25% more copies than a comparable title with mosaics. Sol Press has also stated that their mosaic free titles sold ~40% better than their mosaic'd titles, but Sol Press has a much smaller pool of titles so I wouldn't give it the same weight as Mangagamer who has been doing this for over a decade now.
>Mosaic titles sell well if yuzusoft titles are any indication
5% of all the sales of Senren Banka are to western audiences, with the other 95% being split between asian countries. 188/3547. With Sanoba Witch being 25% western and 75% foreign. 253/1033

Evenicle has sold more western copies than Venus Blood Frontier, Senren Banka, and Sanoba Witch combined. The average Adult Only western VN release will push about 50-100 western reviews, with 100-200 foreign reviews. Evenicle sold double that before influencers pushed it, with it then doubling again afterwards. It was lightning in a bottle due to a variety of external factors, this will not happen again with Evenicle 2.

>> No.24874549

>>24874475
>Evenicle sold double that before influencers pushed it, with it then doubling again afterwards. It was lightning in a bottle due to a variety of external factors, this will not happen again with Evenicle 2.
Yeah, I think people forget, but its launch was perfectly timed. Steam had just made big publicity on their initial stance for adult content -- after many years of badgering from their audience -- which was extremely laissez-faire at first. Evenicle got on during that storm, with a recognizable artist and obvious polish by comparison to its competition, that I think it just became an easy hit.

Sequels always sell less than their predecessors in this market, so while I think Evenicle 2 will still do well, I doubt it will approach the massive success of the original unless Sseth shills it again or something.

>> No.24874625

>>24874549
Evenicle sold well because it was an extremely polished gameplay focused title that was one of the first major 'adult only' titles on the platform. You had uncensored art, a well known artist, a well known developer and publisher, and eventually they had social influencers pushing it. The sequels to funbag fantasy sold 50%-75% less copies than the original title and this was with the ability for Mangagamer to directly push the news of this release to owners of the original title. I would be genuinely shocked if it sold more than 1/3rd what evenicle 1 had.

To put it in perspective, it selling 1/3rd what Evenicle did would mean it sold three times as many copies as any other steam Adult Only VN, or about 4x as many western copies as Venus Blood Frontier did which wasn't hidden behind an 'Adult Only' option you have to manually enable in your steam settings. Or perhaps a better example. If it sold 1/3rd as many western copies that Evenicle did, it'd have sold MORE copies than the entire funbag fantasy series put together on steam.

It's because titles without mosaics push more copies than if they'd been released with mosaics, so obviously they'd try to release as many titles as possible without mosaics.

Hi, I'm one of the two translators who's working on the project. The other guy - Mayumianon - has been MIA for nearly a year at this point and not responding to messages. I wrote a long post about it a couple months ago that you're probably referring to here, https://pastebin.com/5chdQzuY .

If you want an update with what's been going on since then, there's really not much to say. I've been slowly chipping away at editing Danny, editing 100 lines here, 200 lines there. It's a very, very, very, very long game, at over a million characters, 51k lines, and 90 h-scenes, so it's taking an extremely long time for me to edit.by myself. Admittedly, my laziness and dislike of editing isn't really helping. I can't promise anything, it'll be done when it's done. My sincere apologies for the delay.
>>24909480
>>24909644
To clarify a bit, in last September Mayumianon said he was unhappy with the current state of his translation and wanted to re-do it, and I said sure. While I was waiting for him to do that, I started a secret project. Mayumianon vanished in mid-November, and when I hadn't heard from by around February or so I decided to finish the remainder of Danny by myself instead of letting it die waiting for him to return. I asked an editor I work with a bunch if he'd be willing to help out, and gave him links to both Danny and the secret project, which I'd basically finished by around March or so. He decided he wanted to focus on editing the secret project (which is getting pretty close to being done, actually), so I've been editing Danny by myself since then.

I hope that clarifies things a little. I will admit this series of events is probably extremely confusing to the outside reader, but it's also very confusing to me, and I lived through it.

Again, I'm very sorry for all the delays and I hope I can get it out soon(tm), so please be patient with me.

What do you mean? It seems like he translated a bunch of games in a short amount of time and is now also editing them himself. I hate the jews that asks for lots of money/patreon to translate a short TV show clip instead of doing it for the love of it, but I feel sorry for how hard this guy is working almost thanklessly.

Ordinarily, someone that you're working with vanishing on a fan tl thing is completely expected, and I'm told it happens surprisingly often on official work too, but in this case it is a bit odd because Mayumianon once took a two week break then wrote me a full-blown apology e-mail saying he was extremely sorry for delaying the project. I'm pretty worried about the guy, I really do hope he's okay.
>>24909906
Thanks for the patience and understanding. I'm doing my best, but editing's not my forte, so it's slow going. I also don't want to be critical of Mayumianon, since the man a) isn't around to defend himself and b) was clearly aware of the issue, but I'm currently going through the parts of his TL that he didn't get around to fixing and I can understand why he wanted to redo them.
That said, there's really not a lot going on behind the scenes. Every day (or every couple of days) I open the excel file and plug away at it for an hour or three. It's not very exciting.
>>24909948
Quiet you.
>>24910018
I translate because I enjoy it and I find it fun (I don't enjoy editing as much, admittedly, but it's a necessary part of the process). And I'm not doing this for thanks, or else I'd be working on things that people would actually like to read and be popular instead of whatever random nonsense happens to catch my eye. You don't need to worry about me not being appreciated enough, I'm fine with the way things are, and I'm honestly rather uncomfortable in the public eye, which is why I work anonymously on this website.

(Don't worry about the lack of wordwrapping in the image, somebody wrote a script to do it for me, I'll add in wordwrapping in later once I've edited everything).

The editor I work with is fantastic, if a bit slow, but otherwise I have absolutely no complaints, he kills himself busting his ass slaving over my projects (in fact, as I type this he's been working for something approaching 12 or 13 hours straight). He just said he wanted to work on a side project for me first before moving on to Danny, so I figured I'd pick up the slack and do some work on it myself. While I do regret and sincerely apologize for the time that this project has taken, in the end, it's a fan project. We have no deadlines, it'll be done when it's done.

While I'm certainly no expert on official work, I know a few people who are in the industry - several of whom lurk this thread - and all I can say is you would be surprised how common it is for official, paid translators to just disappear. I k now for a fact it happened for two games listed in the first two posts of this thread. But I probably shouldn't say more than that because I was told this in confidence. The official people who lurk this thread know who they are and they can say more if they want to.
>>24910310
> I don't see how people can just disappear from a real job.
I have turned down four or five offers of official work (although I'm still unsure how genuine Xev's offer was, but considering the current state of SP I suspect it was very genuine). The closest thing I've come to doing official work is doing QC for the english releases of Trap Shrine/Trap Legend, and even then I wasn't actually paid for that and was shocked to see my name listed in the credits of the first one.
And, well, no, to be a tad blunt I don't give a shit about the opportunities I'm missing. Translating is something I do for fun. Spending hundreds of hours translating officially on games I don't enjoy for shit pay sounds like a great way to kill any enjoyment I get out of it.
That said, I don't have any particular problem with selling out. If somebody comes to me and says they want to purchase a TL I've done I'd probably say yes, it's basically free money considering I've already done the work and it's better than getting fucked over like the poor Yukikaze translator did. That said, I can tell you for a fact that nobody's lining up to purchase the translation of Ishu Aigan.

As I said at the time, most of what I said in that discussion is inaccurate because you can't fit the actual accurate explanation into 2,000 characters, there's extremely complicated jurisdictional issues, etc. It really wasn't meant to be more than a very rough intro, and the only thing anyone should really take from it is that Yukikazeanon's in a very bad position. He also said he had his translator for one of his LNs bail on him too.
>Unfortunately for those of you who have been looking forward to Hello,Good-bye, we're going to delay the release to November.

In my region it happens because warehouse jobs often have really high quota's and you're given several weeks to be able to reach that quota before write ups and eventual firings happen. This places you into 1 of those 3 groups. Group 1 would be people who aren't willing to deal with all the various bullshit that happens in regular warehouse jobs and don't want to put in the sheer effort or big brain plays needed to overcome the various issues that crop up so they just work casually a few weeks while there's no pressure while searching for another warehouse job and leave when they get it. Group 2 would be the people who can big brain their way through the various issues by cheating or powergaming the system and try their best to get placed to a different position before they're caught. Finally you have group 3 which did both big brain and effort extremely early on and used it as leverage to get trained in multiple positions and from there focused down the one they enjoy the most or used the power/knowledge gained from those other positions to cheat their way through the quota tasks.

I have absolutely no fucking idea why freelance VN translators would ghost a job though. It's easy fucking money and the quotas are easy too since you basically end up with 1-2 years to finish a title, or 5 in the case of Sharin no Kuni, those poor dumb kickstarter supporters.

>>24913294

It wouldn't be a bad idea for Alicesoft to release the occasional budget title through Steam to see how they do. People are more likely to impulse buy small, cheaper titles than larger ones. Assuming that it's about the length of the various titles KaguraGame releases, they can probably charge $25 which is about the current price listed on DLsite and get away with it. It's probably too new though, unless Alicesoft was planning on a Steam release from the beginning (which I severely doubt). PhDs are a bubble which is about to burst, anons!
I dropped mine instantly during my 4th year when I landed a job as a high school teacher.
PhD from humanities braches (my branch, and most likely this guy's branch) are paid peanuts and are extremely unstable. Also, the working environment is competitive pressure and fake people.
Also, new regulations state that you cannot work at the university where you completed you PhD for 5 years, and I've seen doctors drag around unemployed and working like dogs until they've been able to work again at that university 5 years later for a shit position.
Also, you keep on being an aggregate teacher (the same as someone without a PhD) until you become a certified PhD.
How do you get a certified PhD? Working for free, guys!! Get enrolled in research projects, publish in peer reviewed journals, travel around to conferences where most times you even end up spending your own money and wasting money in the process, etc until you gain enough exp points so as to request it when there is an opening.
Also, did I mention that, in order to work as an aggregate professor, you need to have ANOTHER 20 hour/week job as a requirement?

TL;DR don't fall for the PhD meme.

No, really. The sex scenes in Ayakashibito are retarded and exist solely to fill a quota. I'm not saying sex scenes in general are retarded and shouldn't exist.

The sex scenes with the heroines are fine, and in Suzu's case, great, especially during the traumatic events in the true route. The sex scenes between the other members of the main cast are also fantastic, and there's no such things a harem in this one. Here's what's not fine:
>omnipotent being needs potty training and it ends in fingering and is never, ever mentioned again at any point in the story, also happens at the very beginning of the game with the main heroine
>random cuts to villains having orgies with random soldiers, or with each other, incest included, never amounts to anything
>random rape scenes with minor characters (one is decent because the protag goes super saiyan and wants to kill the rapists before he's stopped), including one with a character who's in the story for a brief moment in name only and later gets a full rape CG
>sex scene between the protag and his teacher's love interest, while said teacher defeats the villains by himself a few floors above
>cheating in the true route with a minor character while the main heroine is in a life threatening situation
>random masturbation scene with a minor character
The main character has strong morals and a personal code he follows. He would never cheat on his love interest, nor would he have sex with someone else's. This takes away from the story as a whole, and the 15+ version would objectively be the superior experience.

It depends. I don't think it's "believable" that every high school couple immediatley starts fucking as soon as they start dating. A lot of routes end prior to the point where sex might realistically occur (especially routes that end as soon as the dating starts). In games that drag things out longer, sure. But even then I don't think you necessarily have to depict, and not every game is entirely focused on romance to begin with, even if it's included. Not fully portraying the romantic aspect isn't a problem in that case.

It's already a 50+ hour VN with 4 completely differently themed routes with no repeat content. I suspect the script was finished and then had sex scenes injected later. Said quota is the issue and results in out of place and forced sex scenes that do nothing but take away from the overall experience. You're just supporting the argument. Games with porn sell more, so they shoehorn it in. Plot driven VNs have it mostly just to appeal to a wider audience and is just there for the sake of it, not because the writer had some amazing sex scenes in mind. The guy who wrote Ayakashibito even left the medium, and his last VNs were 15+.

If I wanted an adventure game that spends half the title going on about romance only to allude to the other half of the romance happening offscreen, I'd play an actual video game. I've got nothing against all-ages title, other than the fact they try to make romance a big part of it then only show half of it in 99% of all-ages titles. Look you want to do a DBZ VN be my guest, but if you're going to do ishuzoku reviewers except you cut out the entire review portion then you can fuck off. If you're going to do a romance driven title, show ALL of the romance. If you're doing an action or mystery style title then stick to it.

Imagine if a title was about vanquishing a demon lord except when it came time to raid the castle it faded to black and by the time everything came back the protagonist was talking about how it was the most epic fight he's ever had and that he barely managed to claw victory from the claws of defeat using some nifty tricks he picked up along the adventure. Kami no Rhapsody isn't that good sadly, but the novelty makes the release notable.

Their best games are the Ikusa Megami series, LA DEA, Soukoku no Arterial and Sankai Ou no Yubiwa imho.

The newer games since Grasesta got worse and worse and the newest Conquista doesn't even allow non-windows10 PCs to play it. But they run smoothly.

Windows 8.1 is fine too (as in officially supported), it's Windows 7 that the game refuses to start under. It can be patched to work under 7 however. In a similar fashion Amayui didn't work under XP but could be patched to restore XP compatibility, unofficially of course.
