My fumo Alice and Marisa want more friends but I'm not eady to buy another one. However with (maybe) another quarantine in my country, I think it could be the right time to pick up a new skill.

So I want to try and make my custom fumo but I'm overall a beginner in sewing. Any tips/guides ?
I'm also a bit at loss about materials. I guess I should buy felt for hair, whatever fabric I want for clothes and some plush stuffing, but what about the body ?

Follow this general process, think of the character you want. Then, think of what fumo has an expression that matches what you want in a fumo of that character. Buy them, as for other supplies, I use knitted fabrics for clothing due to its softer and stronger nature, alongside it oftentimes not fraying when cut. For hair, I have used minky, blizzard fleece, and anti-pill fleece, and all of them are rather good for fumo hair. Much like clothing fabric though, just go to a fabric store, find the colors you need, and then just start feeling different fabrics to see what feels good to you and looks good at the same time. For painting eyes, which is often necessary, its actually quite easy, just take it slow and remember youll probably need to apply multiple layers, use an acrylic paint, and youll be fine. Removing the clothing of the preexisting fumo is easy, there are 1-2 anchor stitches on the belly button and directly opposed from that on the back, snip those and you can either slide off or bisect the clothing. The hair its really just giving a fumo a haircut down to the scalp with a pair of fabric shears. Last thing, making a fumo is not the hardest thing in the world. Take your time, be patient, and itll turn out fine. There may be times throughout the whole process wherein you think its turning out terrible, it doesnt look good, etc. When incomplete, do not let its current look make you think it looks terrible. Lastly, dont be afraid to mess up, making clothes you can easily redo, same with hair patterns. Removing the hair is hard to truly mess up on. and as long as you take it slowly, eye painting should bring you no trouble.

Don't have a full list but from experience Patchouli, Sakuya and Sanae (mainly the two latter) are very common.
I've seen a fair lot Cirno and Marisa so I think those are not that rare either.

The rest I do not know. Got my Alice for a very reasonnable price so I know it's not high up in terms of rarity.
I've seen a few Ran and Yukari but always highly overpriced.

I'm actually working on one from scratch myself, as I can't really afford to buy one. I don't have one in person to reference, so I'm not sure if this is quite right, but I'm using a skin tone fleece from Joanns. It... doesn't actually look much like a fumo, but I'm sure you could make it look more like one with a better reference. I'm making a Wriggle one, since I won't be able to buy one of her anyway. I've made her entirely out of fleece, and though I haven't made the clothes yet, I'm making that out of fleece too.

Frankly, if I had to do it again, I would change the face. A lot. However, with enough experimenting, you can get something you like. The official fumos make eyes using embroidery I think, but I can't do that with my machine, so I used fleece. Honestly, I think you could easily make something better than mine, but it was also the first quality plushie I've ever made.

In conclusion, I tried things to see if they worked until I got something that looked good enough. That's what I need to do with the clothes too.

Using a forwarder (or proxy) is easy, since their websites are almost always in English (assuming). Using Gift's website is mildly difficult if you can use Google Translate and is very difficult if you can't and also can't read runes.


It's probably worth pointing out that Gift doesn't technically charge your card until they are ready to ship. They do place a pre-charge/reservation/hold/whatever for a similar (or the same) value though, so you basically can't spend that money, which is then cancelled when they charge it.

Fleece seems a bit more fluffy than the fumo body usually is but the tone is right. I'll go in a fabric shop to feel what is the closest to what I want.
I don't have a machine so sewing will take ages but if that second quarantine hits this won't be a real problem I guess.

Keep in mind here that White Rabbit is a proxy and not a forwarder. I know Zenmarket also allows pre-orders, however the problem is whether they put in the order fast enough before orders close. Whereas you are the one placing the order directly when using a forwarder, which will probably be faster than a proxy. If you are using a proxy I would recommend telling them about the specific date orders open (see link).

Hello. I'm from South America too. I got them from Amiami when they still had stock. Each of them costed me around 30kCLP between buying and shipping(around $45 burgers at the time), which was honestly not that expensive. I used SAL, which was one of the cheapest options, and the cost ranged between 600yen and 1300 yen to Chile. Pay in mind it was a relatively small box, and I only ordered one each time I ordered, but if you can afford the 4k yen that a new fumo costs, then you can probably afford the 1.3k shipping.

I honestly would be more wary of customs. Mine's not that bad, honestly, but I've heard horror stories from people from my neighbour countries.

As for reading the site Chrome has a little tool in the address bar that translates the entire site (except for images) so that you can navigate it. Together with the guides on the forwarder's site and the image posted earlier I think you should be able to manage.

I don't quite understand what you mean by this. Basically you make an account at a forwarding service who will give you a Japanese address. This way you can make an account at gift online shop who does not ship outside of Japan. For the address you use the one that the forwarder provides you.

I ordered a Yuyuko to pair with my Yukari, a Satori to go with my Koishi, an Alice to go with my Marisa and a Reimu because it was bothering me that I didn't have all the protagonists. It's definitely nice to order it yourself which removes a lot of stress. However if you're going to use a forwarder next time I'd recommend setting up an account with them and gift a bit in advance, because otherwise it won't be less stressful. Also congrats on the softs.
