I prefer to use keyboard because I can use it with left hand. Also I don't use auto mode because it slows me down. It usually waits for character to finish their line (in voiced VNs) before advancing. Usually I don't want to wait but I want to hear the lines of some characters. Also in some games the voice continues playing if the next text block is description and not actual dialogue. Worked very well in Wanko where it was dialogue->description->dialogue almost all the time.

Nah. Even in non voiced games it's still slowing you down. You can press the space at the exact moment you finish reading the box so you won't waste any time. Even if you calculate the time for auto mode based on the length of the box it would still be average time and on some boxes it would be too slow and on the others too fast

Also didn't Red Shift display a whole page of text at once? (VN style not AVG) In such cases auto mode is even more useless because it's harder to estimate reading time for the whole page.
