i want to learn japanese but i am confronted with three different choices (for the caligraphy, i think): 'Kanji/Furigana', 'Kanji', or 'Hiragana & Katakana'

which do i choose and why? advantages and disadvantages of learning each? thank you :)

They're all worthless. Learn romaji instead.

>> No.2459565

The Japanese don't really use Kanji or Kana anymore, they've been moving towards Romaji so that's what you should stick with.

Hiragana and Katakana first, then Kanji/Furikana, THEN Kanji.
Basic alphabet, Kanji with pronetic, then Kanji.

oh and ill be using this mostly for videogames/anime/etc (also if i visit japan one day) so maybe that make the choice clearer?

>> No.2459596

Romaji is the way to go, any other advice here is a troll.

>> No.2459608

Furigana is great too, don't bother with Hiragana and Katakana though, both are worthless. Even the Japanese can't read those anymore.

It's mostly to adapt more to western styles, and to make it easier for foreigners to learn the language.

just learn makikana and be done with it, it's easier and you'll gain a better understanding of kanji later on

Kanji/Furigana (I'm going to take a guess and say you're using rosetta stone, though. If so, I'd learn japanese a different way).

Hey WhiteRen, do you remember the booklet or did you pirate the game? The booklet was about as awesome as the StarCraft one, which was already gorgeous..

I used to love Homeworld. It was such a perfect package, everything about it was done right.

Bought the first one, pirated the second one. Never beat the second one. My brother took my copy of the first game, so I ended up having to get an ISO and a keygen.

And nobody makes good booklets anymore, if they include one at all. Game creators these days have no imagination, and never make good supporting material.

I blame EA Games for setting an evil standard.

well, most katakana is also kanji, so I would suggest that you concentrate on those, because youll get a lot for "free" so to speak. Also, most "popular" words tend to be katakana.
