I have to write a sonnet for my poetry class, but I am unsure what to write about. Give me some ideas.

Write of an old, retired sailor and of his unrequited love for the sea. It stole his youth, his comrades, and his health, then callously cast him aside. He's filled with bitterness and hate towards it, yet still finds himself on the shore drinking and hopelessly yearning to return to the thing that destroyed him.

It's cliche, but in a classical way. There should be more than enough material to work with too. If you're looking to make it /jp/ related, I guess the sailor could be Japanese or something.
