Why is the Vocaloid community so shit in the West nowadays? I don't remember it being this bad in the early 2010s

Explain what you mean by shitty. Even if I kind of know what you mean.
Some factors that immediately come to mind:
>Children make up most of the visible fandom.
>The platforms that western Vocaloid fans gather on have shitty cultures already, which makes things worse. (ex. Amino, most Twitter and Discord circles)
>Most western Vocaloid fans are casuals. Do many western fans even know P names outside of Mitchie M and Wowaka? For some reason I feel like this reduces quality, not because you have to be hardcore to not be a shithead, but because people are less invested.
>Longtime fans are an eclectic mix of 19yos~30+yos who have almost nothing in common and nowhere to congregate, so they don't interact and therefore aren't the backbone of the visible community.

Blatant pedophiles (granted this was an issue even in the early 2010s), petty drama/cancel culture, characters being used to push certain political agendas, casuals that literally only know mainstream artists like Ryo, Mitchie, and Wowaka, and the list goes on and on.

You bring up a lot of good points, especially that last one.

If anything happened, I would have heard about it and have seen vocaloid become less and less produced in the western market until recent years.
Provide proof first and a name and occurance of the bullshit happening as it is a western produced conflict.

It happens every time when a normie shows up. He gets his nuts twisted because a girl has a flat chest. If you want to live in a country where flatties are banned from adult material, go to fucking Australia or simply add boobs to your search results.

Not talking about people getting a hard on for the vocaloids themselves. I don't give a shit about that. I'm talking about actual pedo scandals like the ones on VocaloidOtaku, Ortsa & neurotoxin, etc. due to the amount of kids in the community.

I agree w/ you that the kids who get pissed over pics of Miku's ass really don't have their priorities straight.

>> No.24274137

Is there still one? I kinda fell off the Vocaloid wagon a few years ago (though I still keep up with some of the non-Vocaloid work of several older Vocalo-Ps). I see CircusP is still shitting out songs while being an otherwise insufferable cunt but seems like otherwise most interest has dried up from what I can tell. Seems like it's back to the early days of just being a mega niche hobby for westerners. That's probably fine. Westerners who aren't all-in on the culture tend to be shitty fans anyway.

Still no notable, good western producers (god I hate CircusP) but there's still fans. I mean, Miku Expo sells tickets, so there's obviously something there. I think there's a good amount of westeners listening to the music without making original content. I have no problem with it going back to niche, though, and it's closer to that than it was in 2013.

This is also the main reason newer fans are less invested, wether it is consuming vocaloid or creating new songs. How are they supposed to discover anything new if all that ever shows up on the algorythm are the same 20 most popular producers from a decade ago? Same with the search results, unless you sort by date but then the truly new stuff is drowned in heaps of badly tuned cover songs and I can understand that casuals are too lazy to bother with that.

the west never grew up with idol culture and were exposed to other things as they were growing up. Their earlier experiences in life lead the people in the west to apply the same things they've experienced earlier in their lives onto vocaloid. That might also explain why they're more interested in UTAU than vocaloid. the western fans just don't share the same vision as the japanese fans do. In a way, they WANT to be the vocaloid voice instead of being the ones supporting vocaloid...if that makes sense. On top of all of that, nobody (save for maybe lupin and Circrush) knows how to write songs properly. They lack discipline and the ability to dream. They just don't quite seem to understand what real art is all about. They love to stir a ton of drama, too. In a way, I just think the western fan's cardinal north is pointed in the south of Japan's compass. I honestly would like to be able to do something about the western community eventually.

A bit off topic, I could be classified as a Vocaloid casual. I only follow a few artists mainly because most don't interest me or I am not looking at the right places to discover. I mainly use Youtube to discover Vocaloid music but I realise it's limited in discovering anything that is not mainstream.

I'm not good at explaining what I am looking for in music but the artists I really like for almost all their works are Mitchie M, Electrocutica and LamazeP. Does anyone have any artists you can recommend to me based on on the styles of the artists I listed above? Or any obscure artists? Where do you witness the "western vocaloid community?" Not trying to be a smart ass; I'm legitimately curious because I listen to a ton of vocaloid music, but I don't know anything about the community. Twitter, reddit, IRL conventions?

>I don't know anything about the community
It's probably for the best

>> No.24462444

It's hard to tell what the "community" is for Vocaloid in the west... It's so many different things all at once, from Project Diva fans to weird ass teens who don't even know what they're looking at. It's kind of a clusterfuck and for that reason I sort of struggle to see what's shit about it. If you want to laugh about it though, scrolling down on this page is a pretty good time https://twitter.com/VocaloidHell

miku says whatever you want her to say. so, you know, maybe instead of just typing a post on twitter dot com saying "miku says trans rights" how about you actually just open vocaloid 4 and make her say it. or better yet, write a fucking song. you know, the thing she was made to do? aw shit never-mind, requires effort and all that...

Weren't people like Baker, kz, OSTER, shu-tP, etc already active by the time ryo debuted? Hell, there were also people like cosMo and DeadBallP whose songs were indeed half actual music half shitpost.

I'm legitimately confused, are you two retarded? You realize the content of the video is discussing the topic of Miku's introduction in the '07 era right? Is the concept of a documentary alien to you? Those things talk about events before their time just like this video is talking about when Miku first released. Why is the video not allowed to be uploaded in 2020? The future brings perspective and hindsight that can't be compared to times one is currently living in. Once again I'm taken aback by the massive stupidity of Anonymous. I really don't know what to say. What is wrong with you?

You could have begun saying that instead of assuming everyone here knows japanese.
I thought you were using that video as an example of an old shitpost.

>> No.24498999

Why don't you try addressing some of the points raised by other people instead of getting bootyblasted that /jp/ wasn't awestruck and totally convinced you were right because you posted a youtube ``documentary''?

>>24498982
>instead of assuming everyone here knows japanese
This is /jp/. It should be a requirement to know Japanese to post here.

>>24498999
I wasn't calling that video a documentary I used it as a comparison that talking about the past is okay. I intended the real meat of my post to be the
>I'd love to be proven wrong
part. To sum it up roughly, Miku was saying how she was used as a tool by shitposters to sing or say stupid bullshit before Melt shook the foundation and caused a split between extreme otaku and music creators.
Anyway, I'm sorry. I'd still love to know your side of the story.

No I wasn't actually. No one provided any kind of valid information, including you. I guess a couple of ignorant secondaries are more knowledgeable than the Japanese people who actually experienced those times.

While shitposts had a much stronger presence in 2007, how the hell did you get the impression they were the only thing Miku was used for? >>24470232 already listed many popular producers who appeared before Melt. You should at least know about Packaged and Koisuru VOC@LOID being released shortly after Miku came out as some of her first big hits. That's basic Miku history.
Maybe instead of watching random youtube videos about Vocaloid you should actually go to the scene of the happening. NND is still there for you to see Vocaloid's history.
https://www.nicovideo.jp/tag/ミクオリジナル曲?sort=f&order=a
These are Miku's original songs from oldest to newest. Even on the very first page you can see classic hits that were already popular at the time of release. Original songs had a strong presence from the beginning, Melt did not introduce the concept.
Since you implied Popipo came out before Melt you've already shown you don't have a good grasp of early Vocaloid, so quit bluffing. No one's buying it.
