I feel like the solutions for the question arc mysteries are fine. half of the them is pretty standard stuff, the other half is name bullshitery, but it was brought up that much you should have suspected it sooner. even ignoring the shanon=kanon part, it was to expect there was something off with both of them only being referred by their blessed names.

Battler is the awful as a game master. Both of his games are terrible. A lot of people apparently think being cornered by Erika was part of his plan, but it totally didn't seem that way and there isn't much to support the theory in the story itself anyways.

Ryukishi tried to be as meta as he could, but without properly explaining anything it just ends up feeling forced and pretentious. Not even talking about the obvious solution to Beatrice stuff, but the meta structure in itself. A more in depth exploration of the "real world" would have been appreciated. What we got is just lazy.
There's a difference between being ambiguous and not making sense after all.

I believe that in this particular case, the solution had to be dumb, considering that they were exploiting Shkannon to solve the logic error. It wasn't meant to be something realistic, just a glitch you can use when knowing Yasu's identity, and which helps understand it.

That's exactly why she does it. She's into board games and never shows any interest in bb guns, but she still walks around with that. It's so she can replace it with an identical-looking real gun once in a while, without the police noticing. I always though it was a random detail and didn't find it that outrageous that Alchemist removed it, but looking at it this way, it does serve a big purpose. It's because of that constant that people argue who is going to be a witch, because along with fragments we also have those that traverse those fragments. Denying magic completely in Umineko and discounting witches as just yet another metaphor is pretty shortsighted. Not to mention we have the scene at the end of Saku where Bern and Lamdawg specifically mention Ciconia and how they're going to it--whether that implies they're just watching, indirectly influencing things, or directly a part of the story is yet to be determined.

No reason for it to be a literal projection, but yeah, Bern can be her own thing and, in the context of the story, represent what you said. Those aren't mutually exclusive at all.
Also, Umineko works on a lot of layers, obviously. Trying to make literally the main layer "just" a metaphor for another is what would make it less deep, in my opinion. The determination goes both ways.
Otherwise, why so many ambiguous details, like Ikuko not aging? The ambiguity would make no sense if, even though a lot of things are left ambiguous (so, both A and B being possibly true), the answer to everything was only one of the options.

I feel like the problem with Ange is that she has too much narrative function and not enough narrative presence. She isn't part of the story that we care about, so the sections with her drag on, even though she ends up giving a lot of context and information about parts of the story we DO care about.
She's barely mentioned, then she takes up a good chunk of EP4. Then she's gone again until she becomes relevant again later.
A minor change that could have made it much easier to be invested in her would have been for Ange to initially come to the island with Battler, Rudolf, and Kyrie, interact a bit with the other cousins--and especially Maria--as a child, and THEN be sent back to the mainland because she was sick before the storm hits. It'd be enough to get us used to Ange as a character that exists in the first few games, and then seeing her as an empty teenager would have much more of an impact. This part is not only very subjective, but also implies Sayo just suddenly came up with being Ikuko and everything, like it was her plan from the beginning, when I don't think any serious version of I=Y implies that. Still, yeah, I=Y relying on off screen development is another negative point. On the other hand, Ryukishi manages 1998 so badly, you NEED to assume A LOT of things in order for anything to make any sort of sense. So mentally writing fanfiction to fill the gaps on how Sayo ended up as Ikuko based on "clues" isn't that much worse than any other mental gymnastics you have to do in order to explain any other version of 1998.

It was just so fucking depressing and so much shit was happening at once. I thought Lilija was going to be the spy but apparently it's fucking Chloe? God an the image of all the kids singing happily in the VR world while killing each other in reality was fucked. While I think the middle dragged a bit and the ending could've had a bit more breathing room I still think it was a strong start that raises a fuck ton of questions as to what is going on. I personally think that the VR world is going to be like the LCL world in NGE in which people give up their physical bodies and burdens to live free and happily in a paradise like world where the problems in reality can't affect them any longer. And like NGE, Miyao's parents play a huge role in the troubles he's facing and what is affecting the world.
