I thought Beatrice explained the reason behind the gruesome killings was the increase the fear of the supernatural in the remaining people thereby weaking their anti-magic toxin (although she doesn't spare herself any lulz that come her way). If they all stayed together and remained firmly convcinced there wasn't such a thing as magic Beato wouldn't be able to do a thing.

But in ep3 and onwards she stops murdering them cruelly when Battler yells at her to stop it.

>> No.2403634

>>2403601
It's things like this which make me consider that Beato probably didn't kill anyone at all. The most she can actually do is alter the crime scene to make it appear that the murders are following the epitaph, as well as leaving the cryptic markings so that people attribute everything to the witch.

That said, the notes in the bottle seem to suggest that there's a different purpose for proving that Beatrice exists to the family and servants, and Beatrice existing to the outside world.

Speculation spoilers from Episode 1, then later 3:

Eva killed Hideyoshi while he was taking a shower. Then she killed herself. What's interesting about dying in a shower is that it shows that you trust your murderer, or that he/she snuck up on you. Both are likely, but considering the closed room situation, it's probably the former.

Looking at the stakes, we can see motive if we believe the "sin" attached to them (specifically, the seven deadly sins) holds significance. Eva died to "lust" while Hideyoshi died to "Gluttony". Gluttony can apply to money: Specifically, gluttony in this situation would be actual gluttony, and not confused with greed, because Hideyoshi had "enough" money with a successful business, even if they needed a little more to get over some financial problems. Therefore, wanting the Ushiromiya money would be gluttony. Lust could be closer to "Love" in this case, or suicide.

Basically, Eva somehow found out in that room that Hideyoshi only was with her for her money. Out of anger, she killed him, then out of sadness, she killed herself. It fits.

There may be some evidence later (chapter 3) where Hideyoshi was apparently a really fucking good husband. However, we know that there was at least ONE situation where Eva was delusional, specifically believing Hideyoshi was a better husband than he was (caring for her). In this case, Eva was sort of using "magic" to deceive only herself, but only in the sense that magic is a form of fantasy.

Hideyoshi wasn't as good of a husband as she thought he was. Of course, this cheapens their relationship entirely, and Hideyoshi being some sort of rich male gold digger isn't too unthinkable.

That wouldn't surprise me considering how fake Rosa and Maria's happiness was, and they were targets for the second twilight themselves the second time round.

It'd also explain another motive for Eva wanting the money: to keep Hideyoshi and the impression of her 'perfect' family. Without him by her side, she'd be......well, Rosa basically.

I really think we're dealing with more than one murderer here.

I know it's obvious, but sometimes I don't think everyone gets it (specifically, people thinking Beato is Jessica. Come on now.)

>> No.2404215

>>2404188
There has to be more than one murderer for the sheer amount of work that goes into the first twilights.

That said, I'm not convinced all the murders are planned, or even that that the murderers are necessarily all from the same branch of the family. (it'd be interesting to see Kyrie, Natsuhi and Hideyoshi try to take on the Ushiromiya family themselves)

>> No.2404227

>> No.2404237

>>2404215
I think Team Kinzo could handle the first twilights on their own. It might be that since "magic" works by getting people to believe in it, EP1 was Kinzo's doing all along to "catalyze" the further loops.

Also a very, very interesting fact is that it is indicated that Kinzo can remember past loops.

what's up with the human beato in ep 2? more specifically... why is the painting different?

>> No.2404259

>>2404227
It's possible.

The first 6 murders are probably done by someone outside the family, and they're probably not the servants, since they all got killed one time. It's got to be the 18th person.

It makes sense, they don't really seem to care WHO they kill, as long as they kill 6. And the "6" is probably more than just a coincidence, it correlates too well with the Twilight.

There can't be that many people aware of the legend of the witch, who also for some reason wouldn't care who they killed.

But since the first real "divide" between chapters is the initial murder of 6 people, the other murders could be anyone. Paranoia, opportunity, really any reason, particularly because it would be difficult for the possible victims to assume that more than one person is doing it, so they'd likely have free reign after one "alibi"

I can easily see Natsuhi screwing up the plan in EP1. If she really believes that Kinzo was talking to her, even though he's dead before the meeting, then she's traversed into full on Shion territory. It could also explain why she 'an hero's herself at the end.

I don't see why it couldn't be human Beato.

She DOES fit the criteria discussed >>2404259 here.

Since she's at the very least impersonating Beatrice, it's easy enough to assume she's at least AWARE of the legend. And while we don't know the motive, it could easily be just to waste the entire family.

>> No.2404331

I think the big joke is that the story itself hasn't decided to be anti-fantasy or anti-mystery -- you'll notice this is very pronounced in ep4; for every apparantly magic thing that happens around Ange (who is outside of the gameboard therefore everything told from her perspective must be considered 'real'), there is a non-magical explination AND strong hints to a magical explination at the same time. That includes Maria's parts as well. Consider:

Maria and Sakatorou: Other people apparantly speak to Sakatorou via Maria's making pretending to be his voice, which would make it look like an imaginary friend. BUT, later in ep4 Rosa appears to be the meta world, where she is attacked by Maria and Beatrice, right after Sakatorou comes and tries to communicate with her. This takes palce either in Rosa's perspective or a 3rd-person perspective.

Ange and the Stakes late in ep4: Even though it was directly suggested the stakes were imaginary, being unable to attack the bullies, late on Ange, show "true magic", summons the Stakes, who protect Agne and slaughters the gunmen. But the Stakes appeared to be invisible to the gunmen, even though they were falling down dead with brutal wounds. It appeared from Ange's point of view the Stakes were assaulting the gunmen with locus blades, but what's-his-face brought along a sniper rifle, and we can easily explain away the gunmen being killed by invisible enemies as being the work of a hidden sniper with was left as a very real possibility, which would make "true magic" just literally a miracle.

The stakes were already mentioned in red...so they exist for sure.
Anyway, to deny the stakes would be like saying that we can doubt even scenes from the battler POV...and that would be very bad...

Also, eva was found with a stake struck DEEP into her skull, she couldnt have killed herself that way, and even if she could (using a stake launcher or something like that) the weapon would be found at the scene of the crime.

Another problem is that someone for sure used stakes in the subsequent twilights and that someone painted eva's door.
