Umm, no. Learn your history from books and not from Enemy At The Gates for once in your life.

The bottom line is, it was the Soviets that basically stopped the Third Reich in its tracks before the Western Front even opened up. If the Soviets hadn't won at Stalingrad and Kursk, fuck, there might not even have *been* a Western Front. Which means *you* would have been shit out of luck.

Yes. Not only did their tanks outnumber the Germans by an obnoxious factor, but the T-34 is also considered by many to have been the best overall tank in the war. It was designed by an American though, and the US also supplied them with a fair amount of Shermans.

In reality, the situation was never that desperate for the Russians. At least not how Hollywood depicts it. They were definitely hit hard, but their armor already outnumbered Germany's 6:1 *before* Barbarossa was launched. And once they went into full wartime production: forget about it. The Soviets would have eventually crushed Hitler even without a second front. It makes me wonder why we Americans even had to get off our asses in the first place. I would have preferred to see the Slavs bleed themselves out more instead of sacrificing our boys for Europe's bullshit.

A little bit. Cultural influences are all varible.

Before the kanegawa treaty in the 1820's, Japanese culture was stagnat. You seem to be a fairly intellegent person, so I'll assume you know all this.

However, if you are defending the claim that America and western culture is threated by japanese culture, you are horribly mistaken. Japanese cartoons and videogames have been gaining popularity in America, but it has little actual cultural influence. People regard them as mere media preferences and nothing more. However, few Japanese cinema actually take a progressive position on ethical values. There is no significant piece of japanese culture that has made a lasting impact on western values. I have yet to see a theme from an anime depict a ideal that western culture hasn't already done.

Contrary to this, hollywood (although I deny the positivity of their social change) has had vast impact on western ethics. New anime like eden of the east seems to take progressive stance on modern issues, but only after the follow of hollywood. Japan has had some cultural influence in America, but it is small compared to an actual cultural takeover.

Wrong. In the media age, media culture is the most significant and is ruled by amerikkans, there is no doubt about it. amerikkan live action series and hollyshit movies are shown around the globe, and the video game market is dominated by US published titles since the xbox era.
Japanese media are almost non existent in Europe in comparison to their influence in the US, on the other hand japanese video games lost ground to those generic xbox action titles because of the higher budgets of the games and gfx worship of underage cancerfags.
This is reality dude, stop living in delusions. The only japense fortress that still exists is the handheld market, though I don't think this market will have much future in the west. With this gen consoles becoming cheaper in the next three years casual gamers and pre-teens will get those and not handhelds anymore. Casual gamers, pre-teens, females ( most of them lose their interest in gaming) are the target audience in the west, and of course the still existing niché fanboy group.

It's no suprise that the pentagon and related institutions spend billion of $ every year for influence in media culture. You won't find any major title that doesn't have the approval of those channels.
This is why many amerikkan video games of today are nothing else than war propaganda were you fight LOL TERRORIST in the middle-east.
And don't forget all those crime series ...

My dad, God bless him, is an 85-year old Iwo Jima Marine. He started out a private in WWII. He made island assaults on Iwo, Guam, Tarawa, and Okinawa. We were talking about Iwo twenty years ago—one of the rare times he did—and I asked him what wave he was on. “The 5th wave,” he answered reluctantly. I asked, “Dad, the fifth wave? So you missed the battle?” His answer gave me a rude awakening on real war. He mustered a cynical smile and quipped back, “What the hell is wrong with you? The first four waves died before they ever got off the beach. If I was on them you wouldn’t be here.”

My dad went from private to Marine First Sergeant and Master Gunnery First Sergeant—the highest enlisted pay grade in the USMC in World War II. He did it with sweat, and blood, and because he was lucky enough to out-survive his superiors. Americans have forgotten about sacrifice, Afghan Mujahadeen have not. Twenty years later, last month, I was talking about how the Taliban were back in the government and how the military was being restrained from fighting them. His latest response was no less than straight forward, “Marines had a saying in WWII; the only good Jap is a dead Jap. War is war; it ain’t a damn line dance.” He was on the first landing into Tokyo. The Japs bowed.

>> No.2405552

although I agree with you that Americans have forgotten sacrifice and know nothing of the realities of war that our sodiers go throught, you really can't compare the current military actions of the U.S. to WWII, they are two completely different wars with completely different motivations.

Now, comparing what the U.S. is doing in the middle east to what we were doing in Vietnam would be far more accurate.

I realize that's copypasta but whoever told that first is an ignorant cunt. Iwo Jima was so fucking small the whole island was a fire zone for much of the fighting. The first four waves dying is also complete bull. Heavy losses yes, but not all dead. Whole story is structured like one of those made-up modern gotcha morality tales christfags like to recite. This propaganda piece sickens me even more for trying to justify killing everybody on sight. Iwo Jima was a straight-up fight between armed forces with no civilians in between. No, he's right. Read some Washington and Jefferson quotes and then compare those words to what the United States' government was doing before Dec. 7 1941. FDR was a scumbag who was more loyal to defending British imperial interests than his own electorate, and sacrificed American lives to get us involved with a strictly European and Asian problem. The fact that Japan struck first doesn't make a difference as far as the big picture goes. America had chosen sides long before that Sunday morning.

My point is that the United States would not have been attacked if it was truly neutral. On the morning of December 7th, we were already an Allied power for all intents and purposes. We had drawn a line in the sand over Indochina (which contained the fuel that Japan was seeking) while embargoing them at the same time. If that isn't "sticking their cock into everything" then I don't know what is. The fact of the matter is that war was the only option left for Japan, which now sought to pre-empt the inevitable American intervention by knocking out our Pacific fleet. If we had stayed out of the mater entirely, the issue would have never arisen and no attack would have taken place. It was not a beligerent move on the part of the Japanese, but rather a desperate one.

And no armed force that deliberately targets civilians can be called "good guys." In World War II this was standard practice on all sides. I'm sure the old women who drowned/burned to death in molten asphalt on the streets of Dresden wouldn't have very kind things to say about their American saviors.

Jefferson and Washington were both proponents of isolationism, yes, but that was back in the past when the US didn't have the amount of foreign interests that it did in the 20th century. I have my qualms with FDR too, but I still think the US made the right decision from both a political and moral standpoint.

But yes, American neutrality was questionable at best and the attack on Pearl Harbor was a justified act on the part of the Japanese. Or it would've been if a formal declaration of war was issued first. Although if I recall correctly, the declaration would've been in our hands couple hours before hand if we hadn't made a point of snubbing the Japanese ambassador. And there is, of course, reason to believe that Navy had at least some vague knowledge of the impending attack anyway.

It's still a very emotionally-charged issue for most people, and I think that's the problem. Not everybody is a flag waving impressionable hick, but the imagery is still burned into society's memory. We fought men in black uniforms with skulls on their caps after all. But enough historical study combined with a traditional noninterventionist outlook on foreign policy will show that our involvement, despite all of its illusions of glory, was tragically unnecessary and hurt a lot of innocent people. More importantly, it gave birth to the paranoid Cold War mindset that has set us off track to this very day.

I hope that once the generation that fought the war finally passes on, we'll be able to look at it more objectively.
