To be honest Crypton should only introduce a new singer if one of the voice providers has to leave (because of age or just moving on). Since they'll require a lot more marketing to push compared to the already popular characters they have, and even if it does gets big it can cannibalize their cash cow (Miku) without having the same staying power (it could damage Miku's marketshare without taking her place in the long term without all her history and nostalgia).

I have an idea for a male loid that I think would be pretty successful. Actually surprised it hasn't been done yet. I'm not good at describing voices but what I'm imagining is pretty much a male Yukari. Probably wouldn't fit the CVs though since he wouldn't sound anime enough. Maybe he'd fit in with Meiko and Kaito as a CRV3. But Crypton probably isn't interested in continuing Meiko and Kaito's line.
Do ya'll have any ideas for a new Cryptonloid? I can't think of anything else that's both got widespread appeal and wasn't already done.

A miku aged male character is complicated because most japanese anime/game MCs fall in that age, it will be really hard to make it not look like all those and the generic and forgettable OCs producers sometimes add to their songs. What they need to do now is to make Len and Kaito more versatile to cover the lower and the upper middle ground you describe.

I was talking in the business perspective. Miku is Crypton, It's Hatsune Miku: Project Diva, MikuExpo, Hatsune Miku: Magical Mirai. Other Vocaloids are guest characters, so obviously they'll get minor roles.

It's not by chance, if Miku is not consistently everywhere, she becomes just another Vocaloid (or virtual singer), and Crypton just another company that makes voicebanks. For example if Miku only got 1/6 of her marketing and promotion (shared with everyone else) from Crypton but GUMI got all of Internet Co. focus, then GUMI is the number one in the media.

Of course it is that way because only Miku could be that one character that could become Crypton's face, but once true their business is to maintain it that way.

what's everyone's thoughts on this album? has anyone here heard this yet?

imo, this album is really, really good for a western release. not going to lie. this is coming from someone whose heard plenty of death grips, swans, /mu/core shit, and of course a bunch of vocaloid music.

the concept is well illustrated, but not entirely. the tuning is amazing, and the production is ace. It's a cold, dark, apocalyptic, and conscious album. it's got synth pop/art pop sounds with neo-soul influences. It's as if lupin may have taken some notes from frank ocean.

The themes and lyrics are what really makes or breaks this album for most people. Linkin Park Teenage Angst level of lyricism is the best way that i can describe it. It has that very pessimistic, rebellious tone that is commonly found in most western vocaloid music. The lyrics are rather direct, concrete, and may feel a bit repetitive yet carry some emotional weight to them. lupin seems to pull this sort of thing off better than most producers out there when compared to other albums like Crusher's Concientia and CircusP's 715. Regardless, the lyrics could definitely use some polishing.

themes include but not limited to Alienation, Mass Shooting, Living an uninteresting life, and Loss.

besides the lyrics, the other things that i might be a bit critical of is how well expressed the concept is and the singing from lupin. I got no problems when producers themselves sing, but when he sings with Dex on the song "empty", you can suddenly tell how vastly different a vocaloid voice is from a real singing voice. that sudden and startling difference can possibly be a bit off putting for people. If a vocaloid voice doesn't have a real voice to be compared to in a song, it just somehow sounds tolerable and enjoyable. This just applies to english vocaloid voice banks.

it's a solid 4/5 from me. If you can look past the lyrics, you're in for a treat. In a way, specters gives me hope of better western vocaloid music for once.

Crypton's problem with marketing Miku was that there were 2 different markets to cater to. On one hand, you had anime music weebs. On the other you had normal Western music producers and listeners. They tried to mix both, and it didn't work. I think normal Western producers/audiences have very little interest in vocal synth, see Cyber Diva flopping. Maybe it would have been better to bank on weebs magically creating something that went viral enough to capture normies, like Sakura no Ame. (But the bigger problem was that the product was bad.)

I just listened to the entirety of this, and while I don't have too much to say that's different from what you already said, I can kinda see where you're coming from and why you like it as much as you do. I really don't think it's as good of an album as you described, though, not by any means.

If I can praise it for anything at all, it's definitely a step above some of the other western shit I've heard (anything by GHOST or Eyeris/Creep-P, for example). This lupin guy clearly knows the basics of how to make a professional-sounding pop song. I could definitely see tracks like "we'll all be dead" and "sleepless" being popular with normalfags and playing on the radio regularly if they were sung by human vocalists.

But that's all it really is though. It's nothing more than just some incredibly basic, accessible pop music with no real identity, and that's coming from someone who can regularly enjoy pop music. I tried to ignore the lyrics like you said, but the angst became WAY too much to handle sometimes. It got really annoying after awhile.

I didn't really mind the guy's singing, though the engloids were almost unbearable for me. I love synthetic voices but for some reason the english vocaloids always sound tacky and more unnatural than usual to me, even some of the decent banks like Oliver and Fukase. Again, if it weren't for the shitty vocals, I could really see this being a classic among normies.

Overall I'd never voluntarily listen to anything on this album ever again, but if I had to pick a favorite track I'd definitely say "voicemail". It's catchy and fun, has a nice instrumental, plus Diana's voice actually manages to sound pretty decent, especially in the chorus. If I had to rate it I'd probably give the whole thing a 2/5.

I hate the diva games, SEGA designs and picks the worst outfits, downgrading the better ones. Why? Then GoodSmile takes those designs and floods the market with figures.
