I didn't think the 2nd disc was bad.
By that time all I wanted was to progress the story... I was completely captivated by it at that point. So I was actually glad it wasn't too stretched out with more dungeons and stuff.

Episode I: Good cutscenes, decent characters, good enough battle system, WTF story that makes little to no sense. Assumed the nonsensical stuff would work itself out in sequels.

Episode II: Shit battle system which takes up to 10 minutes for random fucking battles, complete lack of shops and anything really resembling an RPG outside of HP/MP. One of the main characters altered from geeky engineer who was actually worth something to worthless girly girl always concerned with shit that doesn't matter. Focus is on someone who didn't seem very important in the first game.

Episode III: Decent battle system and the return of more typical RPG elements, but the franchise obviously lost all funding (average graphics, rehashed music, unpolished menus). Girly girl is even more annoying than in Episode II, and unfortunately the game revolves around her stupidity. Half the game takes place in a recreation of the past, but at least it tries to wrap up the convoluted storyline from the first game.

I have a translated Perfect Works somewhere; I was like YAY when someone finally went and translated it all.

Anyway I think Xenosaga was originally meant to be like Part I of the Xenogears timeline, but a lot of shit didn't fit and it got broken into 3 games and just kind of broke off into its own series that is unrelated to Xenogears but there are a lot of homages to Xenogears in it.

There was a sort of wink wink nudge nudge agreement between the two that Monolith could stop just short of calling XS a direct prequel to XG, but they could use names and concepts from XG. What happened was that Namco forced Monolith to can the XS writers during the development of XS2, and forced a massive change to the story, so it meandered into nothingness. Now that Monolith is owned by Nintendo, there's no hope that the series will be revived, which is fine because it made Eva seem sane and coherent.

Well the bottom line is that in the end, Xenogears rocked and deserves a remake; hell I'd even go as far as to say do a total remake, where you play through all 6 intended parts of the storyline. They could even break it up into a couple of games like 1-3 then 4-6...and squeeze money out of it. I think we can all agree that if it were remade with a modern graphics engine, it would sell very well.

Xenosaga was an OK, mediocre series, with the first game being the high point of the entire franchise and everything going downhill from there.

I played xenogears like last year and no sir I didn't like it. Partly because of disc 2 but also because everything it does has been copied (and upgraded) and done a thousand times in JRPGs. It's not fair, but that's my experience. The Id schizophrenia thing was done awesomely tho.

Also Elly fucking sucked. She was suppoused to be like this elite sky-SS trooper but makes herself a double ni---damsel-in-distress when you first meet her and gets over her parents murder in the amount of time it takes her to say "How dare you!" and generally fails in everything so Fei can save her.
