The Roman Empire, under Caesar, was an unstoppable juggernaut that fielded tens of thousands of men, accompanied by the finest military hardware of its time.

One shrine maiden would be able to do very little against such an army. If anything, she would be captured and then tortured into giving up the locations of the other important figures of the Fantasy Village.

However, I would not put it past some clever folk, like Remilia for example, to use their wiles in order to fell the Empire from within.

How would they kill Youkai? Youkai regenerate real quickly and aren't hurt from physical attacks. Danmaku will shred all the clusters of people and I don't think their shields can stand up to that shit either.

That doesn't mean average level ones like Mystia wouldn't be a threat. Youkai are most active at the night, when humans are least active. Mystia blinds the night guards, and a small troop of youkai sneak in and kill the entire force.

Of course, Rome wouldn't be able to seal the youkai, so any invasion would just be an unending war.

Avarage youkai is weaker than avarage Gensokyo human. You know, the ones that are used to defend from them from infancy. Any outsider who comes to Gensokyo is screwed. You need spiritual energy and weapons to fight them, normal warfare does nothing.
