Do we want to continue debating the origins of Rider or not?

Rider's been done to death (interpret that however you like). Let's analyze Medea's origins!

What's to debate?
There are many versions of Medusa and her origins and her end, and for Rider they chose a more of a tragic victim turned monster origin, to fit in with her role in the story and her relationship with Sakura.

Trying to determine her exact nature OUTSIDE of what Nasu has written in the VNs(F/SN and HA) is useless and pointless.

Medea - so awesome and so awful at the same time.

I'd love to discuss the awesome aspect, but the awful aspect leaves me busy shedding a single very heavy tear for every high schooler who's had to put up the play.

I came back from a month abroad (having studied the play on my own while I was away) to find that the rest of my English class had been convinced by the teacher that Medea was some kind of feminist symbol. All the girls at my table thought she was the shit. Which I think is horrible.

Medea is quite the experienced murderess, if Euripides is anything to go by.

I would have my disquiets about trusting a woman who would offer her son a cup of poison, but that's just me.

I really don't know about this... Medea, feminist symbol?
Sure, she knew what she wanted and didn't let anyone push her around, but maybe killing your kids is a bit drastic.

My sentiments exactly.

>>2350273
I'm really not sure. I wasn't there, but when I tried to argue with the girls at my table, I seem to recall them being stubbornly convinced that Medea had achieved some kind of victory over Jason with her final actions in the play. Horrifying.

>Sure, she knew what she wanted and didn't let anyone push her around, but maybe killing your kids is a bit drastic.
Yes, it's a bit too drastic. Any woman who can kill her children is suspect in my mind. It makes my stomach turn. I also don't believe she really achieved much in regards to exacting vengeance on Jason. Haven't read the play since highschool though.

There's not really a lot to excuse, nor is there a lot to explain. It's pretty much all there.
Gets hitched with Jason, blows up golem, gets fleece, kills princess, kills king, stabs kids, flies off in... golden... sun... chariot...?

Okay, it gets a bit more complex in the context of Nasuverse.

Let's not forget that Medea was one of the first shipwrights, in her own small way.

She ensured that the Argo was built with a piece of enchanted wood in its prow, so that it could speak to its crew.
